It is also illegal to buy such crayfish and you will end up in the same stuff where they keep them.
See these @#$%%^ selling them on the South Coast close to the Hibberdene turn-off.
If there is no market they will stop selling them.
So yes please do not buy crayfish on the road, if you do I hope you get very sick from eating them!

If I remember correctly those pictures are from about 5 years back. The Crays weren't being stored in the long drop (they would only last a few minutes in there) but had been quickly stashed behind the door after the seller was chased by the Parkies. Still it's a great deterrent for people who want to buy from these guys.

My mate tells me that this would be the modus operandi in mozambique in the days past..Things would live off the poo he reckons. They'd even keep them in the poo farms till the tourists arrived. He worked in ponto for over a year.. Lovely

Apparently they are tolerant of small spaces and low oxygen if they can crawl out of the water somewhere and breathe air..Like when a red tide happens? Ja they'd need salt water probably and the PH of the urine would stress them.. It obviously works for long enough to survive till being sold haha. Ja dive, don't buy your crays.

Crays kept in long drops is a bs story. Was created years ago to get people to stop buying them on the side of the road. They need salt water to survive.
