Hi all

A mate and myself will be fishing Kwaggashoek Dam at the end of October. Neither of us have been or fished there. We are looking for any advice, tips or any relevant info on the dam. Thanks in advance gents.

Was there in early August, only spent one night there, was in the Fisherman Chalet 6. fishing was very slow hey. not much action at all and very few signs of fish. I would also like some info on this dam as i would like to give it a crack on a longer session.

There's a reason it's called The Spot. You've got access to all the good spots in the dam. On the attached map are the "better" fishing areas. The furthest to the dam wall - there's a hole which the fish tend to hold up in. Just in front of that is the old tree and platform and just in front of that is another hole. A bit to the left and there's good reeds to target. If you target the reeds dont be shy to place your rigs quite far in. As one guy once said to me there - his rig was further in than he was comfortable with - and he pulled out a decent 11kg mirror.
Tigers work well - experiment with them. Some guys say plain - some say flavoured. When I was there the guys from DB baits were testing boilies and they hauled out a few so dont forget to put out at least 1 rod with boilies.

What I found was that the "legs" of the dam are not very productive in the winter. The fish dont do much feeding in these areas. Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying you wont get any fish, but it is VERY tough and takes a lot of hard work to get a fish from these areas.

Thanks for the post Axle, your logic makes sense and i tend to agree with it. i had just assumed that the legs will not be that dead as there were alot of reeds on the opposite bank etc but i get your point about the legs being slow in winter

Be carefull not to get dragged in the further is better and the reeds are the begin and end all... Fished it last year for 4 days...got 6 fish, smallest was 9kg biggest 16kg and all of them came from middel of kwaggas.

Agreed - I did however mention that those are the "better" areas where one does not have to work so hard to get fish.

Im here now and its slow. I had a 16.1kg but today only cats. My last session i had 6 runs and landed 4 with biggest 14.5kg. I use flav tigers.
