Ok while on holiday, i heard the following tactics in catching kurper. I need opinions because if it works i'd like to try it in langebaan as well.
The guys would fish off the boat for kurper in Harties for example on a stretch that more or less has the same depth. The first big kurper that is caught, gets a nice fat hook through the back, tied to a float with enough line that the fish drags the float behind it without trying to pull the float down as well, the float being big enough that the fish cant pull it completely down. The fish then gets chucked overboard again, float hook and line in tow.
The blue kurper are supposed to shoal, and once the shoal has moved you spend a lot of time finding the shoal again. This way you follow the float all day and stay with the shoal all day....
now... from a seawater perspective in langebaan... many times you'll get big stumpnose on the bite, catch a couple and then not a bite, as if they vanished. If the abovementioned tactic is possible, it could work for places like langebaan, or any other where you know the fish are in schools working up and down the river/estuary.
