Hi all ...
We have been living in Kosi Bay for half a decade. In that time we have NEVER felt anything but "at home". We moved here from Johannesburg so we know what life is like there.
The number of incidents that have occurred in this part of the world is so insignificant ( mind I said the number is insignificant - NOT the nature of the crimes ) in comparison to other places  - why then the disproportionate hoo-ha in the media over a hijacking here and a robbery there?!
I do not profess to know the circumstances surrounding each of the reported incidents; my opinions are based purely on my personal feelings.
One take on this is that certain things happen to certain people - no matter where they go - so Kosi Bay is not the "danger area"
Another theory of mine is that attitude can determine the manner in which a person or a place is treated. It sounds simplistic to say "show respect and be treated with the same" but that's how we live our lives - and we continue to live crime-free in our environment.
Whether either of these statements rings true for you - bottom line is that Kosi Bay is NOT the Wild West.

Be vigilant NOT vigilante ; show respect NOT arrogance ; do your homework before you leave home and ......... have a great fishing trip!

Interesting first post, thank you for sharing.

I must deduct that you live and work in Manguzi, pleasant and interesting place.

Just a question - are you suggesting that I am talking nonsense about the crime on that coastline, and otherwise that the crime we have witnessed and been affected by is because we and all the other people held up by AK-47 toting criminals is because they/we did not show the people RESPECT?

Tell that to the 6 young female doctors doing their compulsory Government internship at the Ingwavuma hospital when they were hi-jacked of their vehicle and every single possession at Kosi and that we all had to help get back home to go sort the mess out, and the SAPS thats still coming out to investigate.

Are you then also perhaps not aware of the numerous times that families have been robbed of all their possessions including their vehicles inside the Kosi Bay Parks Board Camp, and of those on their way there.

About the crime and armed robberies at Sodwana and Southern Mozambique I dont expect you to know either either, but it seems you are one of thos New South African denialists.

My post is intended to air my point of view. Period.

I absolutely do not refute any of the information anyone has posted on this thread - I also do not make light of any of the incidents that have occurred.

I reiterate : we have lived in the area for five years and not once been directly affected by crime. That is not to say I am unaware of what goes on in the neighbourhood - and that includes Sodwana and southern Moçambique ( from Ponta do Ouro northward ).

New South African denialist? Never been called one of those before! If that monniker applies to a person who deals with things as they happen, and then moves on..... I suppose I am. I call it being an Old South African Realist.

visit gunsite.co.za, buy yourself a sidearm and shoot the bastards dead befor they can say boo, the police certainly arent interrested in doing anything to stop the crime there or anywhere else in this wonderful country. its time to do it ourselves.

At Mapelane they have armed guards patroling a night. I bumped into one of these very polite gentlemen one night. They dress in black and believe me you cannot see them untill they speak to you, then the heart rate goes off the chart.

Now you're even aprehensive during the day.

If guys are negative about the situation it's with good reason.

I worst part of the whole thing is that all we can say is ...WE ARE GLAD THAT THEY ARE ALIVE.....just shows how violent crime can become....its sad...But one thing i can say the grass isnt greener on the other side

these days?We will stay at Utshwayelo, going in two vehicles and camping with our kids. Any updates?

Friend of mine was held up with his son and wife about five months ago. He was shot and waited hours to get to a hospital.he was in intensive care for months.Barely survived.
