Look , throwing spoon amongst the bricks is not for the feint hearted , also once you have worked out your spot and what size and weight spoon works it does get easier...I throw from half ounce spoons to max 2 ounce spoons...

Good day Folks , well this weekend was most interesting indeed...water colour , temp and tides were absolutely spot on , only thing niggling the back of my head was the barometer ,...it was dead dead steady , no movement at all and this i have learnt over the years , not conducive to hooking kobbie on spoon...
Saturday mornin I was at my spot 05h30 with a high tide at 09h02 ...boy oh boy did it look good...
First off i saw no Jonnies hanging around and then as I walked/waded through the shallows to get to my pinnacle , saw no bait fish to talk about , so was a bit disappointed , but the tide and water was still in my favour . and then as I got to the waters edge , I could see there was no fizz in the water....
I throw for about an hour and a half and then call it as i had to head off to work...
At around 15h00 I notice the wind still has not picked up and the baro had risen by 3 points , I decide to go down at 16h30 and get my dpot on the push...
Im about 20 minutes into the session and the shad come on ...THICK!!!...every second throw is a shad and the light is now getting to that late arvie kobbie after glow time...I have now hooked my umpteenth shad and have a short drinks break...
After about five minutes i am back in the mix , by now the fisherman that were to my left and right had packed up and mooched off....
As that light is just on the water I get my first SOLID enquiry...NOW . my toppie always said when you on with spoon and kob , start counting , I get to 5 , so thats roughly 5 seconds , kob off...
So , Ive worked through the shad and the kobbies are ready to do business!!....I have another two SOLD enqiries , also around 5 odd seconds and then off. as the dark arrives I smile and count my blessings and leave the kob idling...
Sunday arvie i am back at my spot and as that water gets that late arvie shimmer ONCE again , ....KOB ON!!!..this time I count to 11 , one head shake and off...
NOW..all the years i have been doing this , I have always womdered what makes the kobbies NOT commit at times like this...to date , no answer , BUT..I console myself with the fact that the barometer is this or that ...coz I firmly believe in the baromter for kob on spoon...
Sunday arvie i leave the kobbies idling once again and THIS morning I am back on the low tide as she turns , baro is dead dead at 1022hpk for the last 12 hours....As that water turns silver with the first light I get my first rattle , kobbies are ready for some breakfast...
4 throws later I am ON!!....my count gets to 8 and off....
At 06h45 I smile , count my blessings and once again leave the kobbies idling...
Kob can be very wary If condition are not 100 percent to their liking and will hunker down and not commit fully to the strike...
A most entertaining weekend ...

Good day Folks , well after this weekends run in with the kobbie that were non committal ,..I watched the conditions and knew that Monday and Tuesday mornings would be really good for an early AM session before work....
Monday morning dawned as perfect as ever , as I got out to my spot , i noticed quite a bit of bait fish in the shallows and then one lone Jonnie diving out front...I started my session in the dark and as the first crack of light appeared I got a fairly gentle enquiry and the next 45 minutes it was dead quiet...I had my coffee , smiled and knew the kobbies were around and still not committing , ...
During the day I watched the wind and barometer , very steady and dead...
When I knocked off from work and git home i saw the baro had dropped 5 points as a small coastal low was forming between two high pressures...
I got uo early again this morning and the baro had risen 7 points , ..I was pleased , MOVEMENT!!!
Im down at my spot 06h00 with a low at 06h52...Im at my high tide spot and after about 5 throws , I quickly run out of water...I move over to my low tide spot and there i see the water is working nicel...
The east wind the day before had done a slight job on the sea and it was now a lemon twist colour ....which , actually i dont mind at all...
I have two throws with my DS spoon and quickly realise , need a spoon that handles the churning water ...I clip on my Fugly and i know she is a real B....H to throw and after about the third throw i get a tap ...shad??...weed??..or kobbie???...two throws later I go heavy on the stim and I know this is a juvenile kob , they are so predictable in their take of a spoon....I land the kobbie and the next three throws produce another three juvvies...
In the pic is the 4th one and released them as i made way home and leaving the kobbies on the bite!!!
The baro movement in the last 12 hours tide period proved the committment and I firmly believe , had i stayed as the sun cleared the horizon , I wouldve been into the high school of kobbies...

Mornings Folks , after a good weeks spinning and hunting the kobbies this weekend turned out a bit iffy....I always look for what ifs and why the kobbies were not on line ...well , this weekend I put it down to very warm inshore water conditions , kob are pretty sluggish in warm water and at an average of 23 the whole weekend the kobbies were in slow mode...
As to the barometer , it too was a tad too dead and steady , the bright moon tides were spot on and the shad were on line the whole weekend 24/7...
Sooo...we now look to the weekend ahead and wait n watch as the winter systems come into play....

Good day Folks , had an early AM session yesterday on the public holiday ...tides were spot on , water colour was good and I think the temp was too warm for kobbies...AND a bit frustrating as i lost one of my Fugly spoons , ...at my low tide spot i could not get the Fugly to work properly and got brave and let it sink a bit more than usual...it is said , fortune favours the brave....well , not today Josephine...
I never like losing tin and it always feels as if if Ive lost a soldier...
we reset , re tie and move onto the next session....
The Jiggy is locked n loaded and the 11f Sylaflex c.1978 , is all set to go , I may just give this retro outfit a run this weekend as its going to be an iffy fishing weekend...

Well , its Monday Folks and this past weekend was not really top top conditions , but it was expected and predicted...be that as it may , Sunday arvie late and the wind had all but disappeared , so I decided it was a perfect time to take the Retro outfit for a throw...
NOW , its been years since I have thrown a Jigmaster , let alone a HS one , which is much faster than the ole red Jiggies..;.AND , its in the saddle of a 11f Sylaflex , which by its sheer nature a pretty "lazy" rod and one needs a VERY well educated thumb on the HS Jiggy...
First throw , Im balls to the wall and let fly ...well , lets just say , 4 throws and 4 overwinds...
..
Much to the amusement of a laaitie fishing to my right with a SL50 and a decent looking graphite stick...
Anyhow , after after about 20 odd throws I get the lag of the Sylaflex under my belt and then really settle into a rythm
Was absolutely brilliant getting back to where it all started for me as a 14 year old laaitie and now I cant wait to get my first kobbie on the retro outfit...

Good day Folks , I trust your Monday is off to a good start....
Well , as I watched the systems track true as i expected and the tides were really suited to my liking ...Friday night I kept one wary eye on the barometer
as saw that it had not quite reached that magical number of 1021hpk , but was hovering around the 1006hpk mark...
Now , I am NOT a fan of a dead steady barometer , rather have a falling glass than one that has come to a dead stop in a 12 hour period, and this glass of Friday , had been dead steady going on for 7 odd hours....
I woke up Sat AM to a dead , dead glass and thought , well its a good tide , so lets go see what the water is doing ....
AND then , just before I ventured out , I gave the glass one more light tap and it rose by 4 points ,,, SOLID ,,,..at least its moving and in the right direction....
I could feel that there was a very very slight NNW puffing and was not too concerned about that....as i got to the waters edge I could see in the early AM darkness that the sea was not on its head and seemed to be an even swell running...
I get the temp of the water and it comes back at a cool 18 degrees , which I am also excited about....the water is gin gin clear and Im also now aware of late about the possibility of poensies hanging around....
Well , Im 7 casts into the pre dawn and i get and absolutely SOLID enquiry , on for at least 7 seconds or so , kob off , I have a coffee break and sit and watch the water for 10 minutes...I then move onto my loa tide spot as I ran out of water quickly , ...four throws into the second session of the morning and once again ...KOB ON!!!...this time it was an on and an off....I leave the kobbies at 07h45 and mosy on home....feeling pretty bouyant about the prospects for a late arvie session...
Saturday arvie I get down to my spot and i se the water is perfect at my high tide spot ....on my first loosener cast . I am KOB ON!!!...I can feel its a decent fish and now Im gentle and firm at the same time as im a good 30 odd meters out with the tide emptying at a rate of knots and with spoon and kob , you NEVER know where that 5/0 short shank live bait hook is ...top or bottom lip and you are dancing on eggshells , either corner , in the sinew , you are IN THE GAME!!!....
This kobbie is a head bangre and I get him in close and at the 5 or so meter mark , I see him in the shallows lift his silver head and shake ....the DS and its 5/0 came whipping past at ankle height and I had a wry smile on my face , not because of the dropped kobbie , but because I dont have a 5/0 hoodlum embedded in my ankle...
Soooo , im now AMPED for Sunday morning as Im close , so close....when I get home I see the baro has risen some more and is now sitting at 1017hpk and rising ...Sunday morning arrives and Im at me spot 06h00 , water is TOPS , I have 4 to 5 throws at my high tide spot and decide to go to my low tide as the water was draining fast...
Second throw at my low tide spot and a SOLID enquiry , next throw another enquiry , ...breather , next throw , KOB ON!!..land a 60cm kobbie and he was spicey , ...for the next half hour I land 8 kobbies , and I smile as I watch them in the high tide pool milling about ,,, ALL juveniles and healthy as can be!!...
What a BEAUT morning and all kobbies were safely released to fight another day ...
Conditions , conditions , AND a rising barometer , for me will almost always tell me its kob time...water temp is very crucial as well....
