Kei June 2012, What an awesome trip! Our group consisted out of Duckpond Don and his better half (at fishing lol), Jean VZL editor of Rising Tide, Jacques C our local guide, Meesterbeer our bait master and master chef!
This was my second time at Kei Mouth and after Decembers poor fishing I was packing the big guns for revenge! Winter time with its invariable weather saw us greeted with all four seasons during our stay, but I must say that compared to my summer visit it was complete bliss!
So let’s get to the fishing! We got about 30 species, including Klipvis and a Lesser Spotted Mombak!. We were inspired by the RASSPL concept and tried to catch as many species as possible and certain species were closely contended! But all in all some good catches were made
I’ll start off with the smaller stuff and then work up to the Toothy buggers!
First up the fuglies! Barble eels, barble, puffers fish, brown shysharks, klipvis ect. But taking the cake was this sandy caught by no other than the lady herself. 117cm... EC has some serious sandies!

Small edibles were prevalent all over and some good catches including kolstert, galjoen, yellow belly rockod, catface rockod, bronze bream, shad, poensies, steenbras, grunter, stumpnose ect were made. We kept a couple of shad for bait, two blacktail (bait) and two bronze bream, the rest were all tagged and released! My highlight was definitely my first brace of poensies! Nothing big but damn strong for their size!

We also got into some good flatfish end small non eds. Jean loosing epic battle with what could only have been a duckbill on light tackle! He did manage an Eagle Ray of 106cm DW just before that on 0.40 line and 0.60 leader in the bricks! Duckpond Don landed a very dark Diamond of 1.8m DW as well as a nice little Dusky which tag we couldn’t get out.

Glad u guys had some decent action
There's been some big nastys in the border region of late. We've had 6 good hidings at leonards. One witch stands out popped my 200pd steel
Man that was a busssss. All at night ecept 1 witch was a 150kg +- blacktip popped 1.2mm leader
Border the place to be. Fish all year round.

We fish pretty heavy, 290lb steel, tennis racket string leader, 0.60mm mainline, but if your name is on not on the fish you won't land him. I didn't get to many non ed pulls with Duckpond Don living up to his name giving us all a hiding...again! It's not easy to land sharks there and rather unsafe in big seas, we were pretty lucky lost only one decent fish and a couple of small hammers that we couldn't control because they just swam in.

No that was Duckspond as well, we fished a high rocks and it was definitely sanded up, one day we landed 3 bags and two Diamonds, but the bite was slowish. The whole area seems to be very sanded up as the swell was kicking up plenty of sand all the way from Freshwater around to High Rocks, reckon that's why we got the Kob and flatfish.
