Ok, a while back it was still a sticky post, but has since been released and fell back into the pool of posts. I did a collection of venues and info (probs a wee bit outdated by now, but you could get location info still) in a post named Known Bass Venues (I think) so jsut do a search for the topic in the Bass fishing sub category.

Thanx Mohamed, that was the thread I was talking about, I can hardly find it when doing a search for it, and yes the fees and other info there might be a bit outdated but that will give the blokes some idea of venues in and around Gauteng, at least the public ones that I know off.

For what it is worth from a novice -
Been to vastfontein - 8 h, 2 smallies. Beautiful venue - just not for bass
Was at oppie koppie - whole day - 1 bass. again - lekka place, but no luck
Bundu bashing was my fav, but lately not so. owner sold most bass to nearby farmer that is starting up his own place. But it will take atleast three years to settle.
Ithumela - cant fish anymore, unless part of the club ( R400, i think), but only limited anglers.
I am a proud bankangler but to be honest - there is no place aroung Pretoria.
I go as far as Bronkies & Modimolle for decent fishing spots.

Ek was in die vakansie by oppiekoppie gewees,het 6 bass gevang vir die dag,1 van 900 gram en die res vrek klein,die damme is leeg en die plek is vuil,sal nie sommer weer soontoe gaan nie

Ok, found two more places, perhaps you guys can give them a try, no they're not in PTA but close by, the one is called Bass-Paradys and is around 2 k's out of Cullinan towards Bronkhorstspruit and the other is about 1 k form the N4 witbank Highway on the Rayton/Cullinan road, called Bass-Venue.
There's a place on the old warmbaths road opposite the wonderboom airport road called Thulani and apparently you need to be a member to fish there.
Ithumela, is a place off the Moloto road in the Roodeplaat dam area and as far I as know it's still open to the public.
Fishing at the last two mentioned venues isn't all that great, as for the first two, I've only been to Bass-Paradys and the fishing wasn't all that bad but it is extremely expensive, last I heard it was R250/day/angler.
Also heard of a "new" venue apparently on the same road as Vasfontein's main entrance, but I do not have any info on that, will see what I can find out.
There is also my most favorite bank angling spot in Henley on Klip, called Bass-Lake, there's an article on it in last month's Bass Angler magazine, expensive, little far to drive, but ALWAYS worth the effort.

Its not a bass dam , but struben dam near menlyn mall didnt dissapoint myself and my mate yesterday, we came out with a 3,9 kg barbel and these two decent bass
Mine was 2,56 kg and my friends was 700 grams, i like to think mine is a record at Struben Dam since i cant find anyone with a bigger one, Tight lines all!!

just my 5 cents...live in the middle of most of it but rustfontien was visited early jan 2012 venue a tad pricy for me, venue was safe but a bit run down but it did give us six all around 700 to 900 g... bass venue near rayton was late jan 2012 place is clean very little shade and r100 p/p very small was casting a brush hog un weighted completly over the water totaly lucked out...last week was at bundu bashing. had two nice takes but only one landed weight unknowen

I wouldnt suggest wading at RDW as there are crocs there. Although many anglers fish of the bank at the campsite area and there have been no reports of croc attacks , I think its just amatter of time. People wade hip deep into the water not realising the danger.
