I might be going there this weekend, which lodge did you stay at ? We usually go to Ugezi but we have been there many times and want to try something different.

Thanks

hi all, pics wont upload! i will try again just now.

@ Keith, Hi, we stayed on the house boat at Casa Da Pesca. Instead of taking out a fishing boat every morning, and driving for hours, you take the house boat trip into the dam. From there, tender boats takes you into the rivers and all the nice places within 30minutes.

Really was great. Also the best time of year right now.

Our guide was Emile Sada. He really knows the places, and the fish like the back of his hand.

Hope that helps, Regards and good luck

Thanks BlackF, I know Emile's place, it's next to Ugezi. I am going to Cahora Bassa this weekend from Friday to Sunday. Not going to Ugezi though, we are checking into a different lodge closer to the main waters.

Hi Tiger JP

The rod broke before the 17lb monofilament broke.. so not too great. It was still brand new, and in a bag, but maybe it could've been damaged by the cargo handlers at the airport.

I then switched to a shimano rod and 30lb braid.

Hi Keith_R

I only saw this thread today - how was your trip to Cahorra? Which lodge did you stay at if I may ask? I spend quite a lot of time at Cahorra - Moringo Bay - nicely positioned for easy access to main dam and gorge.

My best fish was caught close to the camp on fly - just happened to have no top teeth either??

BlackF - 400kg+ is pretty good going. Fishing obviously still pretty good considering the amount of netting.

I am going there again next weekend, can't stay away longer than 4 weeks it seems....

HI Ikehla

I see you live in Tete? I live and work in Tete as well. Currently I am in Songo right next to the Dam. I usually go to Ugezi and take a boat out at least once a month. When I posted this we had gone out to a small lodge near the Open water and its not far from Moringa Bay.

Nice, so where do you find the best fishing areas? Ugezi is ok, but just far from the big water - although I guess fishing in the gorge area is OK if you know where to go? The nets are a pain though - I have my own boat up here so I fish the river mainly.

The best Fishing areas is away from the Gorge towards the open water, but good fish has also been landed in the Gorge area as well. 3 weeks ago a mate of mine got a solid 5Kg with Mepps number 4. There is a place called 3 musketeers in the gorge which usually produces good fish. The nets are a crap issue but with no supervision the fishing here is going to be bleak in future. My mate and I usually fish together and we have been wanting to try the river but we never had a chance to.

Yep it is difficult due to the lack of boats. I am working on bringing in about 4 boats purely for fishing charters weekends. Will keep you posted. Jason says hi!

Hi guys, awesome fish there! We are looking at a trip there next year and was wondering where you guys would suggest to stay, we will need to hire boats, ideally self catering places, but any suggestions would be appreciated. We have contacted Ugezi, just trying to see if there are any other options. Cheers thanks

Emil is a good option, if no guide required then Moringo bay which saves the 35 km trip from Emils place to the main dam - nice boats, very nice accommodation. gailgrubb@ymail.com

As far as I know.

Emil has an additional place, in the area close to the main dam. Close to where the Kapenta boats also operate from.
