Hi guys. I want to start artlure fishing. Please advise me on how to go about. I fished alot with bait and was quite successful over the last 15 years. I also do saltwater drop shot.surf and deep sea fishing . I want a new challenge for freshwater fishing and i think this may be it. The equipment i have for lure fishing is 2 DAIWA excellor rods,8ft mh and 9ft h, and blue marlin Boss light , DAIWA EXCELLOR oceano 4500 (16lb braid) Excellor 3500(12lb braid) excellor 2000(4lb braid). Have a whole lot of dropshot soft plastics and a couple of rapalas.spoons and spinners. I dnt have a boat and will fish mainly from shore. Do you think i'll be more successful from a canoe? I want to target carp , barbel, yellows, kurper etc. What else do i require? I'm based in kzn and fish mainly Chemsford , spionkop and sterkfontein dams. Please help...

Firstly
Yes I think you can be successful with all the equipment you have mentioned - you might need a few bits of extra bits and pieces.
Best way to learn about artlure is to go out with an Artlure club and learn first hand - there is so much to learn and it is very difficult to convey how to do certain things in writing or just by talking.
I am pretty sure that Bernard Venter will find this thread and he has a couple of DVD's that explain artlure in depth (They are in afrikaans however - and for some of us english guys can be difficult to watch) but this is maybe a good place to start.
Vryheid has an artlure club as does Natal based in Maritzburg.
I know there is a talk at Basil Manning one of these days hosted by Neil Button - the Natal Boys are the reigning champs currently in SA artlure circles and some of the best people to learn from.
Anyways I hope this bit of info helps.
There is also a difinitive guide to artlure angling book that is due to be released in the comming year.

There is a DVD on Artlure available done by Rene Sada. Only in Afrikaans. Inleiding tot Kunsaashengel. It is an indeph discussion on the fishing tackle, lures and techniques to be used for Artlure freshwater species by one of the best Artlure anglers in South Africa. PM me if you are interested.
