Hi MJ,

I spoke to a very helpful chap at garmin in CT call Adrian. His number is 021 7889015. We went thru all the possible faults, while I was beside my stealth. He reacons it is an internal error in the unit and I must send it to them. Bought the 300c in the USA last week. Only costs $200.00 there. Start at +-R3300 here. Adrian said the warranty is valid in SA.

I fitted the transducer exactly as Mangrove Jack explained. Battery, I mounted in the dry compartment. Worked perfectly at home. Launched today onto a bath flat sea at Hobie beach. Within 5 mins the screen went blank. I switched it back on,but it switched off by itself straight away. Tried numerous times. all that happened was the bleep sound could be heard when the power button was pressed. Phoned Garmin in Cape Town, only to be told to send it in.

I had my transducer fitted in the exact same manner, by Stealth and within weeks the transducer came loose. have a look at the pics i'll post and use it for future instalations on your ski.

Transducer fitted to suction cup wich is positioned under the ski once you are out on the water.

no wires haning around and once you off the water i dunk it all in a bucket of fresh water, dry, spray with silicone and store away. have not looked back since i've done this. the clarity of the screen is 10 times better than the shoot through hull method.

Mangrove Jack, has hit it on the head....the transducer should be mounted within a foam frame,(supporting the silicone), thereafter sink the transducer into the silicone, without creating any air bubbles.

Alternatively.............see below

Great, thanks.

Another thing, I see most of the guys mount their FF on the fish hatch, doesn't this affect the way the hatch opens? I would think (especially with the Garmin Echo series being easily detachable) it would be better to mount it between yr thighs, just in front of the hatch...

Awesome if you do, but I think I have found a place which sells them in randburg, which I'll trying if you can't find one.
