Hi guys i will be leaving for a week of fishing on jozini on the 18'th.
We will be staying at Nkonkoni on the southern point of the dam and only having a 14'ft boat i wont be traveling up to the river everyday. So any info on depts water temp or structure would be appreciated.
I will be using everything from fly to bait. I have bought my spoons all i need is to get a couple of fly's and i will be off.

Thanks in advance and i promise a full report when i get back.

Hi TimJan,

At Nkonkoni just becareful with a Bass boat as sometimes the wind blows down the main dam area and the waves can become quite serious. Do not risk it you Bass boat can easily get swamped.

The fishing areas immediatly come to mind when staying at Nkokoni.

1. On the West bank as you go up North there is miles of weed beds which hold a lot of Tigers and you will also find some standing trees along there. WATCH OUT for the Hippo's they are agressive, if you see them MOVE. Shallower Fishing works here, flies work here.

2. Shoot across to the Gorge and fish the steep banks on the inlet and the first 2-3 baya on either side, deep in the Gorge the Tigers get scarce but it is lovely there and worth taking a cruise to check it out. Fish deeper here. The gorge can get to 60m deep so stay closer to the edges up to around 12m.

3. Staight across from Inkokoni launch on the east bank there are also some weed beds holding Tigers. A good place to fish if weather looks suspect as it is close.

The launch at Nkonkni is not so easy as you have a very long shallow area, it is best as you get your boat into the water to reverse a little in and then swing the trailer South as there is a little drop off on the side which makes the launch easy.
