a friend of mine got attacked by a white yesterday while surfing Jongensfontein... he's very lucky and didn't loose any limbs, just got alot of stitches!
should be out of hospital today!
apparently it knocked him off his board and as it was swimming past he grabbed it's tail; not wanting the shark to turn around! it must have freaked the shark a bit cause it shook free and disappeared. said it was the longest swim out of his life!
was a 3,5-4m white....

I still remeber one of the bodyboarding trails we had in keurbooms, Stefan & myself saw a white chasing some random bodyboarder in the wave! What a scary site! We watched from behind the wave, needless to say, the next we were out in a flash!!!!

Glad he is ok and doing fine, will tell you this much, you surfers have WAY more balls than i do. Every time i spot 1 from the boat i want to wet my pants, dont even want to think about seeing them in the water with me, i would most probably die of a heart attack be he reach me.

not at Jongens, he's a Cape Town local. Been surfing with him for the last 8 years here in CT and he's surfed at jongens alot.... not sure if he's going to surf there again!

Thanks, I know a lot of the local Jongens guys. All the best to your friend and I hope he recovers soon.

Would be interesting to find out if the water was clean where he was surfing,I don't believe for a second that an Apex predator like the GW "mistakes" or takes a "curious" bite at a prey target.

Glad your mate got away with no major injuries.

Had a crew member attacked at Struis last year off my boat and it is scary how small you become in the food chain when that shark is around !
