Now as the quote indicates, the advice is just from personal experience and it's whilst bass :uzi, lures and rigs don't differ all that much, so here's what I know.
Match the jighead size to that of the plastic lure so that the action of the lure is not adversly affected, this would probably leave you with a jighead just big (shank long) enough so that the bend in the hook protrudes just past say a third from the tip (front side) of the lure that you're using, thus leaving a 2/3 tail section that still has all the action it was maent to have.
Having said this, we've also hooked the lure in such a way that the bend only protrudes at 2/3's from the front, the reason for this is if them fishies are biting short, nipping the tail off the the movement of the hook further back, foils their sneaky nibbling plans.
Also, check some of the packets of lures' back, some do indicate what jighead will be best suited, then take a mental note of this info and apply that to similar lengths of lures.
If all else fails just go out and try all kinds of combinations and check their action in some clear water (kids inflatable splash pool, just make sure the kid is out when you do this:
