Jetski info please

Hi guys, been a while since my last post.

So I have been curious about jetski fishing, but I don't know much about it except for some good reading. I was wondering if there are options that wouldn't really break the bank.

It seems many says go 4-stroke, but these units are just too expensive for me that is not completely sure if I'd like the sport or not. So I have seen some 2-strokes like the Yamaha waverunner XLT1200 that is on market in the range of 50k.Is this a viable machine as a beginner unit?

Also, living on the west coast I don't have many fishing options, so I'd mainly look at fishing around Dassen and wherever else it permits to use the ski.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I would strongly advise you to go with 4-stroke as it is definitely cheaper when considering the fuel prices these days. With the 2-stroke models being considerably heavier on fuel it will shorten the range you are able to fish as well.

I would suggest to be patient and search around to find a good deal with enough extras where possible such as tubbies (a must) , safety equipment and a fishfinder. These deals do come around but one needs to be patient.

As sungro said rather wait for a good deal on a 4-stroke it will be cheaper with less headaches in the future.

Tubbies and cooler space is needed to make the whole thing work well.
The tubbies can work out quite expensive. If you are good at building things you could quite quickly and easily build yourself something for the jetski.

My dad and i used to have an 1800 Waverunner which we built an aluminium frame to fit on the back. This was big enough for 4 rod holders, big cooler box and a storage container for tackle.

Hi guys, much appreciated for your feedback. I'm doing as much research as I can and apparently the waverunner 1200 is a guzzler.

It seems like 4 stroke will be the way to go espacially taking into consideration where I'd fish is mostly in the 3-5nm range, so fuel consumption is a key factor.

Just thought I'd share that I have found what I was looking for. Got the Yamaha waverunner VX1100. It is stable, economical and drives like a champ.
