Ithumela

Hey guys,
I am looking to go for a day, maybe a weekend, at either brookwood or ithumela, ithumela seems really nice cause it only lets 10 people in at any time so it will most probably never be busy, brookwood is, however more well known and we know there are big fish there but it is apparently very busy at times, i would also like to be able to fish for carp, i know that there are some big carp at brookwood, is there carp in the river at ithumela, if there is, how big.

I've only been to Ithumela once during December 2010 and will not go there again. I phoned the number and tried to do a pre-booking but was informed that I only need to be there early (they do allow more than 10 anglers in so be aware of this as fishing space is not a lot). The main dam was the only dam without lots of grass and then when we got there just before 6 in the morning, there were already 5 guys there. By 7 we were more than 15 people fishing the main dam and you had to wait before you can cast to let the person on the opposite banks get his lure out of the water. We did have a lot of rain in December but I was forunate enough to get to the river with my old 4x4 and if they have not done something to the road down to the river I will suggest not doing it with a small car. The river bank where you can fish is about 10 meters but the river is very nice and I think it can be productive about 20-25 meters wide). I personally think for the price you pay at Ithumela, it is not worth it to go there. Please note that this is my personal opinion and it is based on my once off experience and the owners might have upgraded the place and cleaned the dams from grass.

i wont go back to brookwood.

was there in feb this year. the carp dam has lots of fish but i think they are over fed. dam is small and they just were not biting. the only person to catch one that day was a lady using a landing net.

the water is clear and you can see the fish in schools but nobody got even a nibble.

they stop you from fishing at 18h00 and i slept over at the chalet. was torture watching them swim around and not be able to pull an all nighter

does anyone know of a good place that u can catch carp, barbel, bass, trout, kurper
