Hi All

i am planning a trip at the end of this month to go to tago for the weekend? would u guys say this is a good time of the year to start catching the bigger cats and carp, or would it better to wait a bit longer?

i know most guys say the bigger cats start to come out when the water warms up?
also i would like to find out if any one has been to tago recently, and if so how did it go? any tips are appreciated.

thank:fswim

Howzit, I personaly think this is the perfect time to fish for catfish, its nice and warm. There starting to feed a lot no and is starved out by the cold winter that went past.

Big cats now till april in both shallow and deep water, shallow water at night as the larger fish hunt in the shallows, u want big carp you fish the dead of winter when the pressure is stable and remains so for a few days

The cats are always on the feed, slower in winter and fast and furious in summer. As long as you have stable weather patterns you will be able to target barble. As skuimkop says, october is his favorite time to fish for barble. But as long as you have some good heat and the water temp is above 16 degrees or so the bite will become alot more consistant.

agree that it is A good time of year. But I believe ur chances for big fish is better in the winter, if you know where to find them that is. In the warmer months the cats will find your bait but in the cooler months your baits got to find the fish. If you get your bait close enough to the big cats you will pick them up in the warmer months but if the bait is not close enough to those big cats the smaller ones will find it first. So aslong as you do proper watercraft you will find them any time of year. I believe it is our watercraft abilities that usually decide which time of year is best.

Hit the nail on the head kosi. Winter you find fish, summer fish find you. I think the reason guys don't like fishing winter is its to cold and uncomfortable and you have to work a hell of a lot harder to get your fish. Summer is just easier and a bit more pleasant.
