Interchanging spools on a regular basis

I hope there is a solution, I cannot thing of one except to put a new leader on every session or two.
Where I fish there are a lot of crabs. They are really a big problem as they keep on cutting off mono lines. It used to be only at night, no it can be anytime during the day as well.
I have found that the buggers struggle a bit with braid. So depending on where I am fishing I want to use either braid or mono lines on different spools. But every time you change a spool you do have to cut the line to fit your rig. I fish with a free running rig. So to change the spool I must cut the line to let the sinker slide onto the other line of the other spool.

Is there perhaps a clever way to not have to cut your line while changing spools?

I take it that you're putting a sliding weight on the leader line as oppose to having a rietvlei type setup on a separate rig?

You could use those mushroom type weights that has a slit in it lengthwise, you get a plastic sleeve that stays on your line then you just clip the weight over the line and slide it over the sleeve.
