DAY 74

More progress, Timmy is really putting the effort in despite going for the last 2 weeks.

Stripes have been measured, taped off and applied in the matching sea foam color of the hull.

Some much valued input needed here:

My original idea was to go with the traditional white on the side compartments of the deck. Timmy ran with another idea to go with a brown to match the teak that will be applied around the boat and he wanted to make the sides of the compartments look like leather as the finish on those does somewhat resemble that as it's not smooth.

Although this was not in the planning we went ahead to see what this will look like. The insides of these compartments will have the brown teak inside.

I cant decide if I like the brown or if I would just stick to the white, other people mentioned to go sea foam and some said go with the matching grey that's in the boot strap line on the side of the hull.

I dont want to go to over the top, although I think the sea foam might look good as well but it almost then reaches a point where it is to much as the whole floar will be sea foam in a non skid as well as the splash well and the rear seats.

What to do? Would love some input...

My opinie.

Sorry as ek nie clear was nie, ek gaan nog steeds met a single setup.

Die eerste 2 van die engines is oppad SA toe en ek vat een van hulle, meaning die engines is nog nie available in SA nie maar ek was lucky om een te kry.

DAY 75 (5 months in)

Man I cant believe we are almost half a year into this boat, more progress today despite a crappy working shift for Timmy.

Anchor hatch and the sunroof both being prepped and primed for paint, sunroof will be sea foam with the anchor hatch going white seeing that the anchor hatch will be covered with teak along with most of the boat's bow.

Swimming platforms have also been casted and somewhat reinforced from the previous design with the mounting holes much higher than the previous design to prevent any flex in them, the will also go sea foam.

DAY 76

More progress on the swim platforms and the hatches.

As previous, all hatches were primed and sprayed today, anchor hatch went white, sunroof sea foam and the swim platforms sea foam with the matching grey holographic flake pin stripes, same ones that are on the hull.

Some bad weather moving in for the weekend and next week so more sanding on the top has been done as well.

Clear coat next before the weather moves in and hopefully done by tomorrow.

DAY 77

Another one of the 5 big jobs complete with one major one major one left.

Spraying is now complete and I think it came out great, I cant wait to see the boat next month when I am back in SA.

Only major thing left is putting everything back with all the loads of new additions.

2 Major new things still to come which was not part of the original planning, the new re power and the rigging that goes with that, so far the new engine should arrive anytime from the end of August to the second week in September.

Back to the boat, some pics below, note the first set showing green with the second showing more blue on the hull color, all because of different phone camera's and I have mentioned before, the color on this boat is 100% on target from my actual in person observation, the color is a perfect match for the sea foam green that I wanted from the start.

I will still make a decision on the brown look on the side panels on deck, I want to see this in person first before I decide to change anything.

DAY 78

It's that crap shift of the month again which is actually good giving Timmy some time off from the boat, there is still progress this week however.

The top is receiving it's polishing for now and after that the rigging.

The swim platforms have also been mounted in a much different manner than the previous time, rather then having on row of horizontal bolts, we went with 2 rows of vertical bolts to have no flex on this at all.
The edges of the swim platforms are also finished with a white 3m stick on rubber trimming on the bottom edges to prevent any chipping or such.

Also added is the rub rail with the insert around the hole boat, the nav lights still need to be added into the rub rail, we will discuss the placement of this when I am in SA this coming week.

DAY 79-80

Progress unfortunately slow this week due to the weather making working conditions really unpleasant.

I was at the boat on Thursday and Friday to take the last of the smaller rigging and finishing items and to give a hand where I could.

We worked on the teak for the 2 days while I was there, it was quite a process to get it going at first but we ended well.

We started by templating all the walk around sections as well as the bow and the 2 swim platforms.

Clear stationary sheets were cut smaller and joined together with masking tape and then laid over the walking area where the outline was and then drawn onto that with a marker.

After they were cut to size and then placed on the rolls for cut outs, the planning part of this was quite big to try and not waist any of the teak and secondly to have the grain aligned correctly as the curvature of the bow of the boat did require some alignments on the cut outs.

We had some some mistakes which we had to correct, luckily it was with the smaller pieces on the very front of the bow.

After the cut outs, the lines were drawn straight and cut on a granite block with a smaller knife and then onto routing, all the fits were good first time around.

The tricky part about the routing was to get the correct height adjustment as the teak had a tendency to dip down which would cause the edge to not be uniform, right from the start it all worked out really good.

We thought it good to tape all the pieces onto the walking area to see what it would like and I think it looks great.

DAY 82

I was hoping to hear back from the dealer about the new engine today, still have no feedback despite being told that I would be called back so hoping they will still honor their deal.

More templating done today with a few pics of what it will look like, nothing will be sticked on just yet.

Prep work as mentioned has also started for the new motor as well as the deck non skid.

DAY 84 (6 months in)

Got news yesterday that the engine should be here before the end of the month or latest 1st day of next month.

Deck is done with non skid applied in the sea foam color, once again it looks blue on the pics as Timmy's phone cant change the white balance.

I think it came out real good, the white parts on the transom will be covered with teak as well as the 2 side sliding doors under the splash well that have also been painted, the center door will be fixed so that got non skid on as well with no teak.

Slow updates from my side as i have been caught up quite a bit with travels.

After the deck was done the boat got another polish to clean up some of the over spray that went around, the first 2 pieces of teak were also stuck onto the swim platforms.

DAY 88 - 89

Off week for Timmy this week and all ready very good progress made.

The teak on the driver and passenger dash have now been stuck on as well as the teak on the side console as well as the 2 door side entrances.

Good progress on the switch panel as well, it has been stuck on as we thought it will look much better without any screws and we have full access to the wiring and switches if needed.

I think the panel came out great and looks pretty much exactly the same as the original sketch design.

The back lights are housed in a wooden box to not loose any lights and if the led strips are placed on the panel they sort of come through as dots and dont give a back lighting effect.

DAY 90

With the addition of the tail and reverse lights it was quite a mission to get all the lights coming on when they needed to, but in the end it got done.

There are now 2 very bright reverse lights added as well and they work on the same switch that switches the red down lights and the blue down light on as long as the car is in reverse.

Also got 2 more pictures of the switch panel in complete darkness and it looks great.

Engine is a tad late as expected, I have been told they the containers are being unpacked and it should be any day now.

Day 91 - 93

Quite a big update, 60 pictures.

I have been in SA since Saturday and came down as the engine delivery sounded like it was gonna happen soon.

On Saturday we started with the cabin carpets, there were 2 different shades of blue as well as the grey in the boat and I wanted it more color matched as well as lesser joints.

So we decided to take out all the blue carpet and cover all the white surfaces in the cabin with the same grey carpet on the roof.

The planning for the floor as well as the bunks were way more extensive and time consuming, currently the floor carpet is fitted needing some trimming with the bunk carpets to come.

We then moved on to the loose carpet on deck, the storage hatch was cut out leaving the inspection at the back covered, the carpet will be given a stitched border tomorrow when we hand those in with all the upholstery to be redone.

We then took another shift and decided to do the teak in the outside compartments, we just just made it with the remaining teak. These are not stuck on, the are held in place by the compartment and despite them being quite stiff they took the shape of the compartment perfectly not throwing away any storage space. The good thing about this is that they are removable however it will not be easy at all, I cant imagine what a mission it would have been to stick these on although they look and feel stuck on for life!

While busy with the teak we did the teak on the splash well doors as well, quick job to finish the day as well as putting the teak fish ruler on. Measure, cut, router fit.

In preparation for the motor fitment which we were still not sure when that was going to be, we decided to get the mounting plates stuck on with sealer and bolt them on so when the time comes to fit, they wernt falling around. Timmy did a great job cleaning these up and the shine they have is really something as you can see the reflection in the pictures below, those white stripes on the top plates are balcony railings about 2-3m away.

There is one plate on the outside with 2 on the inside.

Also in prep for the upholstery, we wernt to happy with how one of the side cushions were sitting as it was not aligned the way we wanted it, we took the whole cushion apart and made the adjustments to the plank.

Then the big one, so the engine was suppose to arrive second week in September, that became end of September, beginning October, becoming any day as I was told 9 October, then 12 October and finally today sounded like it could be the day, it was an agonizing wait but hey, it made it!

It is the weirdest feeling in a way that I cant describe watching the truck pull in and then opening the box! Enough of that, it arrived and it looks amazing, pictures dont do it any justice.

So I went with the Mercury 150 4 stroke Pro XS, super proud to say only 2 in SA and as I mentioned, I was super lucky to get it and I got an amazing deal which made more than enough sense. Very sad to let the Yamaha go when I did but it served me extremely well and its time to venture onto something else.

We were suppose to have a forklift available which blew a top gasket on Saturday, lucky us, so with enough man power put together it was almost effortless getting it off the truck weighing a cool 300kg with the engine at 207kg.

Plan at this stage is so have the protective screens measured and bent tomorrow as well as the new bemini frames and fitting the engine on Wednesday.
