Installation of Fishfinder

I'm in Durban and need to have my new Fishfinder installed on my Jetski

Can anyone perhaps suggest someone that will do a neat job at a good price?

Thanks John, I can always try. The biggest challenge is the attach the transducer to the inside of the hull. Do you guys by any chance sell this type of glue ?

I'm not a big fan of shoot-thru installations, a bit like buying a 225hp jetski that only gives you 100hp of power.

I agree. I have a shoot through ducer and it does limit the performance.

I hear you, but don't want to drill holes in my ski. I know it is stupid to think like that, but fishing is secondary , I mainly spear fish off the ski.

So if all fails I revert back to the old way of " finding " fish , my diving mask ( heheheheheh )

I really do appreciate your help and your hospitality on the forum.

Any suggestions on the type of glue I must use, perhaps silicone ?

Never silicone! Epoxy only with a 24hr cure time. The quickset epoxies get hot and create tiny bubbles.

Opt for the hardest, most crystalline cure you can get. You need to transmit waves (pulses) as directly as possible... Anything "compressible" like air or silicone will destroy the transmission of the sonar. Make sure that the GRP in the part of the hull that you attach is particularly solid.

I must admit, I too was very, very scared of drilling holes in hulls until I gathered the confidence to do a decent GRP repair. That's not to say I will drill a hull without a great deal of thought first. It's just that it's not such a big deal if you learn how to do a decent repair if you change things later on.

If I were in your shoes I'd mount the transducer externally. Talk with other owners and find out where they mounted and how they routed their cables. Go for it Boet!

Thanks manne !!! Here goes nothing, as for me and drilling, " hooo ehe " cant even drill is hole in the wall. ( end up drilling 5 and not one ) wify then needs to get handyman to fix.

Racetrack here I come.

. hey manne, trust all is well fished. Some feedback on the DIY job. After lots of stress and effort convincing myself, I'm glade to report .... " It's a Boy !!!! " ( oops sorry wrong forum ) , just kidding. My 421s is working like a charm.

Took out my ski to the Shoal and it works perfectly, both chart and sonar.
As was said in this post, it was not that difficult, so next time do it your self.
