Yeah the kayak is more rigid but I have "The Kid" and "Vlakvark" that always tag along, and that makes the Mariner 400 ideal as we only do dams and it has lots of space But and this is a huge BUT, i've got waaaaayyyyy tooo much Carp that I carry with when I go fishing, so that's why I thought of rigging the rods in their length down the outer side of daducky's side pontoons, only major concern is securing it so that you don't lose a rig that had a R2500 price tag to the depths of some pea-soup filled dent in the earth.

So please if you have ideas on ow to secure these rods with reels in the fashion mentioned forward them please, also, a quickish release system would be highly appreciated....

LGF  - securing them down the lenght might be a problem - you also then have your hooks etc a bot close to the "pontoons"...

 

What I would suggest is to install either sunken or your Scotty type holders into the rear deck and even the front deck

The Scotties - have their own lock system - which is also quick release - but they are expensive - around R250-R300 each.

Sunken rod holders - around R45-R70 each - you get some will have the rod straight up - good for storing while getting to your spot and at a 45 deg for trawling

Can even do a slide under the dech to store some tackle boxes - here is a pic ..will post more

With the sunken ones you can add a small clip and rope that attaches with velcro to the rod, but on  dam should not be a problem as doubt their will be anough motion to knock it out of the holder - unless you really hook a monster while trolling.

Thanx a mill for the pics, they'll defs help a huge ammount, thing is why i wanted to mount them on the outside of the pontoons in their length is the floor normally is packed with gear (85%) and the rest is where our feet has to find some gap to get us standing up.

Looking at the butt sections of the holders in your pictures, the tip end just needs some sort of say high density foam rubber like clip that'l keep the tip from dinking into the water, so the brianstorming session will be around designing something that i can attach the butt section to.

Do you know where these holders can be purchased ?

Hi LGF, te rod holders can normally be purchased from most large tackle shops - well at least here at the coast - not so sure about upcountry or at your local boat dealership.

Not exactly sure what you mean re the butt and tip of the holders, but the Scotty ones are normaly fully adjustable to any angle from vertical to hortizontal and can swing 360 deg.

The flush mount holders as not adjustable - but a lot cheaper.

I'll see if i can draw what I have in mind for the tip sections, the Butt sections (scotty's) I haven't seen around here, so perhaps I'll need to make something similar to them, to fit the way I envisaged them on daducky's side's.

Then its, the durability and secure factor test in someone's pool ^^..

But let me Thank you again, You just causedd me to throw thw box away and start thinking in other directions to solving this problem.

BTW, a rod being trawled, is what caused me to take a dunk in the plaat's green soup, losing a pair of Oakley's and destroying a cell-phone, so I NEED TO SORT IT OUT!

No probs - pleasure - OK I think I am with you now, you want to look at mounting these still on the side of the "pontoons" - I was working under the assumption they will be mounted on your rear deck - which will still leave floor space and have the tips and reels far from water - does make trawling a lot easier as well.

I actually saw a holder almost like the Scotty without the base - but with 2 straps that attaches to the "pontoons" of either inflatables or float tubes
