Inanda Dam - Venties Exposed

Venties is one of Inanda's prime fishing spots.  In order to understand why and how it works, you will have to rely on your electronics.

Here are some of the tools:

Google Earth - This is a great place to start.

Use your fishfinder GPS's Sonar Logging combined with DrDepth to create extremely accurate depth charts -

Use DrDepth's Bottom Type feature to determine where the hard and soft bottom is:-

Use DrDepth's Georeferenced side scan feature to view your side scan recordings:-

Overlay your side scan recording by channel (left or right) on top of your depth contours:-

Breaking the side scan down in detail and creating accurate waypoints ...

The first section to break down will be S00293 to S00295.

321 - 322 - small ledge just before drop off
323 - small hump

This next section is particulary interesting because of how the nests are sometimes on the flats, and other times they are on the top of certain humps with a little drop off nearby (17FT).  The other interesting thing here are the 'highways' that the bass probably use to head up to the shallows for a meal.  Also notice how the fish sit on the first two humps, but not on the third.
