Thanx, coz we want to targe leeries at Zandvlei, but there is lots of grass on the bottom. If u put a mullet out with a big float the leerie leaves it again after it picks it up. If u dont use a big enough float, the mullet just goes and lies in the grass. IM thinking of casting a mullet out with no weight, just the mullet on a bg30 loaded with braid... so id get it out a fair distance. if it then just swims around about 1 foot under the surface, it must be a hit.
Another way of not killing your mullet with the cast out is to do the following,
you get a returnable slide for leeries, cast out, clip the slide on and yes let your mullet swim, by cutting the tail it will stay at the top.
or
just use a QUALITY snap swivel (like you use to quickly change between lures), it does the same thing and is what we used for many years targetting Leerie of the Harbour wall in PE.
The thing with both of these, you have to be quite a bit higher than the water (like on a wall or rocks), the higher your rod is the better.

Hallo almal. Ek soek asb julle menings. Ek wil ook graag die "swem ding" probeer maar ek wil eers uitvind of ek min of meer die regte uirtusting het. My stok is n T-flex stroke 7 wat Errol Holmes gebou het. Ek gebruik n trinidad 30 met 600m .26mm braid op en die res van die katrol is gelaai met .50 lyn. Ek skat daar is omtrent so 800m lyk op min of meer (miskien n bietjie meer as dit.) die katrol het ook carbontex washers in. My idee is om iets klein te laat swem soos byvoorbeeld n 15kg vis (haai, skate wat ook al). ek wil dit net n bietjie probeer en beplan nie om groot te gaan nie.

was op n tor 30 met 600m se braid en .55 top shot toe hy vat vat hy wild en hy het nie opgehou voor ek my spool gesien het nie .ek was gelukkige en het al my braid terug gewen maar toe dit gebeur was ek baie spyt dat ek nie n groter katrol gehaad het nie want dit gee jou net die gerusteling dat daar genoeg lyn is.

Ek weet wat jy bedoel my eerste slide expediesie was op n 15/30 met n 11ft exhage raai wat ek het ook my gat gesien maar n mens leer uit jou foute.

Hey arno. Die ding is ek wil my naam G#T maak sonder dat mense my sien - ek like dit meer LOL. ek gaan dit nogsteeds probeer al is dit eintlik verkeerd. ek glo my rug sal in elk geval eerste breek foor die braid op is so dis dan eintlik die moeite werd. As jy so iets kan reël met die manne met die wit jassies wat weet waarvan hulle praat is ek game. Solank dit in die vakansie is is ek cool - anders as ek voor die boeke moet sit sal dit ongelukkig nie werk nie. By the bay - ek ga die naweek ook n bietjie vir POPEYE uit vat op n date maar ek hoor die weer gaan baie sleg wees. Ons sal maar moet wag en sien

I swam a smooth hound the other night. Unfortunately just as he stared to take line and swim ot past the 200m mark, a massive electrical storm decided to scare the bejeebers out of us and we took our graphite rods and went home.
After being in the water for an hour +, I removed the hooks and he swam off.

Jis ouens.... ek't nog nooit rerig gedink om groot baits te slide en so aan nie.. maar oms so vir julle te luister laat my nou bietjie jik!!
Ek wil net weet.. as julle se maar 10kg haai laat uit sweem... is dit op die non-return slide... of is dit net hook die bait en laat hom gaan waar hy wil?

No it' not on a slide itks a free swimming bait.
Only baits that like to duck into reefs or at least behind it is a Grey. All rays and sandies head out and whenever they lay down the pulling them back coaxes them to swim off
Remember a shark cannot lay still he has to swim to get oxygen ove his gills.
Choice of where to swim a bait is also important and knowing where the reefs are is just as important so you can hold the bait out of the reef
One thing I have sEen of late is that you don't have to swim the bait out far, 50m pat the lip is fine, hold the bait, thge distress signals are picked up and your bait is in the zone where the big sharks are hunting.
Tight line anD stretched arms to you, good luck.
