Wow that is an absolute MONSTER barbel and Yellow.

What bait do you prefer to use when targeting the yellows?

I am looking at doing a trip to the orange some time, are the public or private venues if you don't mind me asking?

Hi It wasn't one of my good trips , wasn't as big as i wished but that's fishing I am going is September again and hopefully i can show a nice photo of a big yellow fish for you.
I will try for the big catfish again. Now these days i am organized with scale and camera and suddenly the huge ones in the past doesn't bite. So strange
For yellow fish i always use only Koo mielies the ones in the can. I am not a big fan of lures  but caught some on it. I believe in natural bait for record braking fish. For the bigmouth yellow fish i always use a small yellow fish or mud fish  I caught bigmouth up until 37lbs long time ago for fun not even taking pictures same with huge catfish that i caught I fished for fun and didn't even bother taking pictures and weighing them and these days about 19lbs bigmouth yellow fish. Small mouth about 15lbs. Small-mouth likes mielies and also worms but the small ones will take the worm as it hits the water.

Soon in the future  i am planning to take some of you guys with, for the experience and to see with your own eyes how huge those fish are and also giving a change for you to better your own records
You can e mail your names to me at henniemoller@gmail.com and from that list i will choose about 3 people on a trip who can join me  Between us we can club together for petrol and food and that's it, nothing else. The trip will be affordable to all.

Wow Hennie, thanks so much for the generous offer. Depending on dates etc I would love to go, the fishing sounds amazing and I am sure it will be a fantastic trip.

HAHA yes that always seems to be the case regarding the camera and scale, I don't really care about that though as long as I get to land something nice I will be happy.

Thanks very much for the tips regarding the baits as well, very interesting.

Have dropped you a mail and will continue to follow this thread.

Groete daar.

Some really nice catches in this thread, well done to all anglers. I've never had an opportunity to fish for big barbel myself, but imagine these fish must be tough opponents.

@Alex123, Perline is a high abrasion monofilament line, see the link for more info.

So I had my first session for the season this weekend and wow, was the most epic barbel trip of my life. I got a fish of 19.4kg, my brother got a 20.04kg monster and my father go an 18.5kg. Not often that that happens these days.
