I'm so disappointed

Wanted to take my new boat to sea this morning, got the guys together, filled the fuel tanks, got some nice fresh chokka and sardines.  The wife packed the sarmies, and off we went. 

We got to the slipway and the water just right a potential perfect day on the water.  I connected the hose to a tap and proceeded to warm the motor while the rest of the guys take the lights/chevron off.  This took us about 10 minutes to get everything ready. 

In this 10 minutes the wind came up and turned the water into an absolute mess, there was no way that I was prepared to put a couple of guy's lives at risk for a couple of fish, they were all very disappointed with my call not to go out, one was even pissed off about it - Today was the last time he got invited with

I do not want to be the potential bearer of bad news to anyone's  family, that's why I made the call not to go out.  I am just glad we took that 10 minutes, I dread to think how it would have been to get back onto the beach with these huge waves

He must of been a five year old not have seen the wisdom in your choice not to go,it is your call as the skipper anyways

Should have given him a snot klap.....YOU are the skipper, we are all unhappy if we cant go out but being pissed off about it is mouse said very teen-age-erish!

Good call mousedog, if he can't respect your decision as the skipper, he doesn't get to go to sea. There will always be other days. Sorry you couldn't get to test your new baby dude, and on a lighter note, please can you keep that weather there for a few more days boet?

Good call. I've made  a few of those, once just prior to a launch something didn't "feel" right and I didn't go. The boys were not impressed.

Being a skipper isnt easy.

Agreed. Soon you will know who you genuin crew is! On my boat the rule is if any 1 person feels it is unsafe, we call it a day... GO HOME TO FISH ANOTHER DAY... ALIVE!

Good stuff mouse, making the call takes b@lls but it has to be done! If it is not accepted, that's just tough!

Good call  mouse dog I went to Ponta the weekend unfortunately NE was blowing quite strong. I did not take enough time to study the ocean before launching otherwise I would have called it a day and gone back to have a good breakfast.

Ended up with a boat full of water just from the shore break which took some sorting out before I got crew on board and we headed for the ocean needless to say the sporadic wind waves where frightening got through surf safely but extremely wet only to find that the sea was on its head and returned to shore within half an hour. Lesson learnt study the ocean before going out its not worth the risk.

Moz was mostly blown out this weekend only one day fishing and it was not productive at all.

I have seen many skippers went through all the trouble of getting their rig on the water etc only to return back after a few minutes at Ponta. You do not feel the South Easter wind in the bay and it feels and looks like a beautiful day until you are behind the backline. Check the trees on top of the big sand dune. I f there is any movement check with binoculars the open sea far out. You will be quick to realise how different the sea is from the bay. Did you guys got any fish?

Hi Big Van

Only one pull which reefed me just past Fredricos after that not even a touch. Most boats had nothing and most other days where blown out. Will be back in September maybe will have better luck with the weather then.

Ditto for Sodwana! When the launch looks too good to be true, it generally is. Check the Causerinas (sp?) behind the kiosk and you'll see that south pumping while the bay at Jesser's looking like a swimming pool.

Nicos that's about 2:30 to 3 hours no? A fishing stop at Baixo Sao Joao and the baixo before that are in the plans and a must I'm assuming?!

You presume right sire. Will leave at first light, gun it for the first about 55km to Joao for a quick jol with dropshot and jig, and then pull rappies and plastics for the remaining 30km.

Thats the plan anyway!
