Just pump prawn at low tide. Its easy, and only takes max 10min

In regards to casting, as rage said, just off the banks. Hell cast anywhere if you want, as long as there are prawn holes in the sand and the water isnt too shallow (like less than 0.5m, thats a beeet too shallow. 1m-2m is perfect IMO) You can cast deep, but grunter move into the shallows to feed, so its best to throw just off the banks

You live in durbz, so go to ushaka and go to that canal place next to ushaka. There are loads of grunter there (but I dont think you are allowed to catch them). Take the time to watch them because the water is so clear there. Watch how they feed and so on. You will have a better understanding of them then
well said , take the time to watch them

1 more thing i wanted to add earlier on but I got a lil busy.

Grunter gulley is a no fishing zone.

if the port police catch you there their could be a stiff fine and you can get involved for tresspassing.Alot of guys still take a chance.

Just thought i would let you know

Hi Guys, also try out "small" ghost crabs. Grunters usually crave them. I think that Grunters are a bit tired of the same Cracker menu on the offer!
Tnx

tie a three way swivel to the end of your mainline. go a meter up your mainline then cut.tie your mainline to a second eye on your three way swivel. on the third eye tie a 75cm length of fluro or line of your choice with a no.2 or no.3 hook. now take a one once bottle sinker and tie a small piece of line, say about 3cm to 5cm and attach to a two way swivel. thread the free eye of the swivel attached to your sinker to the line coming down from your three way swivel. now that sinker will be running. now after threading the sinker on to that line hanging down fron the three way put another two way swivel with another length of 75cm or a meter leader tied to a no.1 or no.2 hook. been doing well with this setup recently in the harbour and you will be amazed at the results on the top hook. this rig is more for fishing the drop at the edge of the channel. if you guys dont get this, let me know and i will try and draw up a diagram tomorrow.

tight lines

What?? That's Bull!!
But wait, Isn't it illegal to fish only from the one side? Cause we got chased once fishing from the side up above those rocks... But, people always fish the other side, The side where all the sailing & paddling clubs are.
Please somebody confirm this...

the harbour can practically only be fished of a boat. the water police are up and down the whole time so you cant even chance it. port control are also driving around all the time.

Hi guys ,

the road that goes into grunter gulley is called Trawlers Way. I fished the area often before but the harbour security are a handfull. If you lucky enough to get in, I suggest you use a three wat swivel with two 1o hooks "one 5cm in length and the second 10cm in length. No sinker is required but a slight wrap of soft lead works well.

Use the sardine head on the short line hookong in from th mouth thought the gill plate and letting the hook stick the towards the belly section. Secure with elasticated cotton. The second hook should be baited with the belly.

I fished the extreme north end where the wall starts off towards the sleuce.

Fantastic spot. Caught salmon, grunter , mullet , kigfish and stumpie. The mullets are huge. Slack line on drag and relax with your coolers.

Grunter trace for shore angling. Hi mates ,is it possible to do normal shore angling and catch grunter.I am not talking about the harbour but the the normal shore angling one would do from the shore.

What tide is the best time

what type of trace do i make to catch grunter in the normal sea fishing from shore.

Lastly which beach in and around durban do i target these fish.

Sorry for so many question.Much help will be appreciated

0.4mm Fluoro carbon Leader. 1/2 oz sinker and 0.35mm Fluoro Carbon Trave of 600mm long with a 3/0 Mustud Bait holder

They some times prefer a drift bait then I use a no 3 power swivel with no sinker

When fishing in the bay try to use slightly larger hooks. 1/0 "off-set" hooks work very well. The reason for not using the smaller no.6 and no.2 hooks is that at times the baby grunters can be wild and you tend to hook them deep. This more often than not kills the fish especially when you try to take the hook out. Also use a long trace line, up to 1 meter. The mistake that people make is that they strike too early, let the grunter suck on the bait and when your rod really bends (you fishing ultra light so it doesnt take much to bend the rod) strike once firmly. Prawns and sardine fillet should  do the job but if there are alot of peckers try a chokka blob bait, i've caught some nice fish on it.If i am not mistaken the worm baits are illegal in natal

legal size:40cm and 5 a day

hope this helps and tight lines!
