5x & 5m is a much better choice, by a looong shot!

Makes better sense than the HDS 7 and the two units are cheaper together than the 7

Then I will always have 5 inches of each as opposed to 3.5 inches of each and occasionally 7 inches of one but nothing of the other !

Another advantage of course is that with two units, if one fails you still have the other! Murphy will ensure its not the one you need ! ! !

I just found out that the boat I bought has a Lowrance model X67C fitted

Is this a reasonable fishfinder or is it an antiquated model that ideally needs replacement

If its an ok model according to you guys, then it would be better to spend the little money I have on a decent Chartplotter / Gps for now, Like the HDS 5M or 7M

It's quite an old unit and at 3,5" very small but maybe go with it, get a 5m now and upgrade the finder when you have grown tired of the X67.

Here is a manual for it.

interesting aspect between the 5 inh and 7 inch

on a 7 inch, the same picture is just bigger, so missing detail is not easy.

i have the elite 5, during feb 2012 we found bait, eventually my eye found traces of bigger fish amongst the bait fish.

knowing how the unit works, is much better then having a bigger display unit

like joh will tell you, the more you practise, the better you get.

Thanks for all the advice Guys

I settled on a 2 units instead of "sharing' one

1 x HDS 5 m and a
1 x HDS 5 x

Now to figure out how these bloody thing work!

What is the benefit of adding "maps" to my 5M

They dont come cheap, are they worth having?

I'm sure you can come visit us here in Durban, and while you are here come for a 1 hour on-the-water training session.

What area would you need maps for?

Richards bay, and surrounding areas

Inland Lakes? Renosterkop, Josini etc
