Hi Dale
We are at Covane Fishing & Safari Lodge on the southern shores of Massingir, and have put your question to people who've had success fishing for Tiger on the Dam. Here are their comments:
From Tinus van Tonder: We would recommend fly fishing, meps spinners, spoons and bait – all these methods have been used with success. The trick is how, when and where. There are many things that influence fishing at different times like the climate, moon, the time of day. At the end of the day it takes a lot of patience and a bit of luck.
From Abraham de Klerk: Best spinner for Tigers in the dam-Bass killer no.3. For Tilarpia use bulli beef and earth worms and crikets. Bass you can find in the dam wall at the boat launch. Use spinners, plastic lures. Behind the dam wall you may find silver carp. Use curry carrots (small) or dough. In the gorge you will catch barbel. Use small fish, plastic lures
From Stefan Griesel: Small Double EF Zett worked the best, but change the hook from treble to single. Also small mepps spinners, size 0 or1... worked very well for the smaller tigers. We were there at the wrong time of year for the bigger fish.
From Janco Scott: The best times to catch Tigers are normally end of winter Aug-Dec when the water temperature rises and before the rains come to distort water clarity.
