Ideal rod to pair with Shimano Nexave 10000

Hi guys,

I registered a while back and haven't been back since. Sitting here, thinking about getting a rod, I realised I am pretty clueless and would like to try to get some advice before heading down to a tackle shop and buying the next thing that the salesman suggests to buy..

I have a Shimano Nexave 10000 that I brought over from Australia 3 years ago. Still in mint condition and rarely used it. The rod that I used it with was a iCatch 4m carbon fibre telescopic rod that I found in Australia back then. Nice compact rod that is quite long, but too light and thin at the tip.

I then proceeded to use a cheap Omoto 14ft ( or 16ft, not sure) with this reel and was able to cast much further, but it feels awkward having the reel down below on a coffee grinder or spinning reel.

Now I am looking at buying a second hand rod that I came across, OR am want to look at something new. The rod that I came across is listed as "penn steel tip2 12' surf 1202 hybrid" a 12ft surf rod. That is the only info that I have. Owners paid about 800/900 for it and wants to sell it for 400.

Does anyone know of the above rod? And then whether you know this rod or not, what would be a good rod to use with this reel?

I only have about R500/600 to spend at the moment and realise it is not much, hence why I am considering buying a 2nd hand rod.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Regards,

ravingDIODE

I forgot to add, I fish mostly every December around Christmas at Langebaan, but want a rod that will be a nice general purpose rod (if these exists such a thing.)

Something that I will be able to use fairly ok all round.
