i went out to snake park yesturday 11am to see what was happening.there were a couple of guys fishing but nothing coming out .so i put my line in the water and get a nice macky ready to slide when 1 grunter comes out not big but some thing so i slide the macky out and wait .
while waiting i fished with my fly rod in the front got a small stupie, nice fight on a fly.then my macky started chooning .bring it in and it is a small black tip of about 1mt. put the line back in the water along with another macky and wait .well you whats next ,the fly . so i just flick the line out in front of the pier were i got the stumpie and about 2 min later i picked up again . never knew what it was at first but when it took off i knew it was a skate .
now all this thing had in its head was left and out ,now what do you do with something like that considering i'm using 12lb relix with 10lb trace and no5 hook for blacktail. yoh this thing doesnt stop and the line is coming to an end .so i put the squeeze on him and it goes even faster with about only 50mt line left to go i lock it and this fly rod really can take alot.the trace gives upand now i have to bring in about 250mt line in .at the end of it all thats what it is all about .oh forgot to mention the water was banging and i got soaked right down to the undies, what an afternoon.
by 2:30pm the sw was pumping .i packed up and left . now that i dont mind doing again

Howzit Muhammad, nice catch on the black tip, how is the fishing off the pier these days, I know my dad got a 19KG pompano of there, but that was like, years and years ago, is it safe?

as far as safe goes yes it is plenty of parking
i wish we could still get pompano that size on the pier
the guys dont give them a chance .the showl pomies are 1 to 2 kilo and they just bag everything .its just sick ,thats 1 of the reason i bought a boat dont wanna get myself worked up over those type of fisherman.the black tip wasnt much fun but the skate definnately was .
tight lines to all

Lekker man, at least there are still some Pommies around, I always thought they where fairly safe, you know especially the bigger ones, cos they can be pretty picky eaters, my dad got his on a Sea Lice, pitty he didn't take pics, this was in the late 70's I think, early 80's, and some restaurant guy from the beach front gave him quite a bit of money to sale it as catch of the day, lol!

He said it took at the front of the pier, and he landed it about 300 meters up the beach, on a surf stick and a KP reel!

i was at snake park pier in december.one pomie came out was roughly 9kgs beautifull fish (wasn't my catch unfortunately) but nice to see none the less.was caught on sand prawn.took the guy like 45min to land.plenty skates around that pier some really big ones too.always worth a throw there.especially if the weather isn't playing along.
