I went out a few times in April and mostly targeting Couta (King Mackerel) which evaded us the whole month, we caught a lot of Sharks and then suddenly the Sharks were also quiet. There have been some small Yellow Fin Tuna around, the odd Wahoo and Dorado in the deeper waters and the bottom fishing has been slow, there have also been a lot of Queenfish around and during the DSC Couta Classic I got myself a new PB Queenfish of 9.3Kg.

The waters have been strange and very warm for this time of year with temperatures of over 25 deg. C on some occasions; there has also been a lot of pollution and debris in the water the whole month and rain which is out of season. Winter is already upon us and I fear our Couta season may be short lived, but let’s see there is still a chance that the weather settles. I also suspect that we should soon start seeing some Sailfish soon.

Mike tell me are you getting your Queen fish on live bait or rappie. A week before the comp had a plan targeting the bigger snoek and it all worked out well as we managed to get a 9 kg snoek. We then release it, with big hope for the D.S.B.C. But have noticed plenty of red-eyes around.

Also Happy Birthday for the other day hope you had a grand day.:::happyb:

When the couta fishing is tough I down size and make my couta traces with no.3 wire and size 2 black hooks. I used this trace with a small mozzie down rigged on a 6 ounce sinker on the drift and no duster.

I have caught many good fish on these light traces without dusters.
