I was trawling google for somewhere new for myself to try for bass and Eikenhof popped up.

Has anybody fished there before?

I see you must by a licence (R20) and is that it ?

Any info would be great

Oh yeah, Eikenhof, fished there a couple of times, lots of small bass, but you do get big bass in there, the water is extremely clear and red. R20 is all then a car fee of R15. but i recommend a boat or float tube, there is lots of structure in the dam,

good luck

Hi IanBass

I might be a bit slow here, but what do you mean by the water is "clear and red"?

Ahhh- ok

Probably roots of the trees giving the colour, or minerals found in ground / water?

I thinks its because of the mountain, thats what the people there say, mountain water and all its minerals.

I must agree with Basslover here.
Thanks for all the info, much appreciated.
I have heard that there are alot of smaller bass in there, buy where there are small ones there should also be some mammas lurking

Hey ther, i fished eikenhof a few years back and to my dismay the fish were rediculously tiny, however they were plenty to catch and took well to a salt and pepper plastic i tossed at 'em... the water i believe has been stained from the plantations that surround the dam, similar case down the road at steenbras dam, i think i read once that these pine release a chemical affecting the acidity of the water and inhibiting the bass growth...i stand to be corrected but good luck :)
