I find myself looking for velcro straps with mater

I find myself looking for velcro straps with material inbetween to strap my rods together while walking towards my angling area yet - i`ve yet to find somewhere where i can buy these straps, anyone use something simplistic or know where to buys these?

What sprang to my mind was those tie downs they use to tie bicycles down on Thule racks. They short black straps. They work the same as a normal tie down strap, and they have a piece of material that the metal part lies over so your rods (bicycles) won't get scratched. You can walk into any bicycle shop and ask for those straps. I think that would work quite well because velcro doesn't do well with bits of sand stuck in it. These straps have no velcro, so there won't be that problem, and because they are shorter than ordinary straps, you won't have excess strap dangling around

i got a set of assassin rod straps the other day for r20. they work like a charm

I just use cable ties. One at the tip and another at the real seat area. works nicely for up to 3 rods.

I went down to my nearest shoe/bag repair shop and had a set of velcro straps made up. Bit pricey but worth every cent.

Basil Manning rods straps work very well and last long as Strepie mentioned. Or else go to your local surf shop they must stop surfboard leash straps!!!

Moyeni, thanks for the offer but it seems like a lot of work for little reward. Thank you though, much appreciated. I actually have a buddy in Durbs at the mo, will ask him to get me some.

As for the other comments, thanks guys, some really interesting ideas. Dave, dies the cable ties not scratch your rods?

Not if you careful when removing them ,just use a pair of side-cutters.

Cable ties break rods! Do not use them. The Assasin straps are perfect. Sand does not bother velcro unless you bury the for a day ot 20. Just plain velcro works fine too. Available in any haberdashery.

Use an old bicycle tube. Cut it in strips and they can stretch and you can use iyt for a loooonnng time.

I tied my shootings sticks like that for hunting!!

Nice one Mustbite! I like the wide Velcro too, I like the look of the Assasin ones so just added them too my well travelled wider ones! I think my wide ones are about 38mm.

Builders warehouse supplies Stretch chord and I get 2 x 3m x 7mm, loop in the one end, put it around the tips and wind it up on the length, simple half hitch to secure the end.

Doubles ups as straps to secure loads on trolleys and roofs of cars.

i use rubber bands.Hook around eyes.two or three on eyes and two or three around butts.worked all these years. 100 rubber bands less than R10.

shoe lace.. strips of off cut from a old t-shirt.. but like some said best is custom made rod straps from basil manning or something like the shimmie rod straps..
