I finally finished a hand-made popper that I thought would be worth-wile to share. The initial idea was for it to look like a Eastern little Tuna, but it ended up looking more like a mackerel. Still got a lot to learn, but hopefully the fish will look past the flaws!

Big thanks to Bennie for all his help, advice and motivation to get me to this stage!!!

Tight lines on this one , I still remember my first trout on my first hand tied fly Wow what a sense of achievement it was.

Nice!!!

If I may ask, how thick is your through wire. I have only been able to find 1.6mm TIG rods up here in the sticks and it's very tough to work with. I'd like to find 1.2 or 0.9

Thanks for the positive replies guys! This is a highly addictive yet extremely rewarding pastime, although I have had been seriously frustrated at times, and have paid quite a bit of school fees.

I have to admit, I would like nothing more than to see this lure riddled with tooth marks and battle scars!!!!

LK, I am not too sure about the dia of the rods I have been using, and will have to check this evening. Getting the wires right is quite a PITA, but look up some of Bennie's posts, he has got a nice tutorial on bending the wire, which makes it a lot easier.

@Critter, very nicely done there, looks very very good, keep it up and please show and tell once it's been mauled?

@Limpopoking, buddy finding any satinless thinner than the TiG rods at 1,6 is a mission, best advice i can give you is try and find somebody in LT that does electric fencing and buy some lengths from them the security stores here does sell the 1mm but only in 50kg rolls.

Hey, thanks mate. I've walked the streets, keep getting offers for 50kg rolls. One bloke gave me some .35mil which was kind of him, but I'm not really wanting to go after the neighbour's prize koi. As you can see, Bennie has offered to hook me up (so to speak ::hapi:)

I checked last night, I am using 1.6mm Tig wire.

Hope to get round to taking the popper for a swim over the week-end

Critter, if swims (pops) anything like it looks, then it will pop very nicely.

I managed to get some 1mm wire from a contractor that happened to buy some wire from the security supplies store where i had tried to buy a small length, which was to no avail.

It works a lot easier than the 1,6mm and for the stuff i make that works absolutely great.

Gonna be heading into town later this morning. I've been stuck out on the farm this whole week. SAPO track & trace shows that the package is there. Thanks so much mate
