Ahoi Nepps,

here's a sports for a chubby guy. I was happy for every kilo on my hips. Sometimes it helps to counter balance 40 lbs drag... .

Fernando advised me to take it easy on the fish. I had bombed the Gorilla 12c (not 20, like you wrote) drag tight... which might have cost us yet another JigStar 350 ASJ breaking in Angola...

At some time Fernando and I had both lost a jig in the reef 100m down, so quick rerigging was needed. A good lecture again, to have spare rod & reel on board. I might just have to come back to CT for some more overheads, as this seems to do the trick for me. The 350 would be my choice again, as it has incredible back bone...

Get that smirk off your face, Nepps... I am still amazed about the powerful rod.

What a great report Jan and it is a delight to read of a jigging newbie quickly pop his cherry! Congrats to Fedu for doing the guiding bit too. I always credit the skipper for most of the fish caught!

He's the skipper, guide, manager and nanny that any newby dreams of.

The critical factors this end of the world are no different from anywhere else: range, mobility safe and precice navigation, accuracy on the spot, reliable sounder electronics (... better even two sets 50/200), and all the tactics and strategy that helps improvising, should the first target zone be unfishable for wind, waves, swell, current or tides.

Doc Fernando got it all under his belt, plus loads of patience with his visitors... even when I tangled our lines...
