I bought myself a Okuma Beach Caster Legend BCL-65 coffee grinder. Since then I have heard some very negative reports on this reel. Some say there is no spares available. Can I get your views on this?

its like all reels, if you look after it, it will last, very few reels these days have design/mechanical flaws, its more a guy dropping it on the rocks, not cleaning it or only using it once a year, then leaving it dirty until next year, and wondering why its rusted solid.

I have been fishing with Shimano TLD 15-30S since 1989 and it is still in a very good condition. So I do look after my reels but what I want to now is if anybody had mechanical problems with the mentioned reel.

It looks very similar to the Steeler Titan you can buy in Game. I bought a Steeler Titan 80 because I was clever enough to leave my tackle 200km away and needed a temporary substitude. After 8 shad and one wave garrick its gears are already starting to feel rough. So naa dont like it much

I have a cheaper okuma topaz 65 and that is actually holding up not too badly. Cost R160. Lots of shad later, and a few other fish and its gears are holding up better than the steeler

steeler is made by okuma, and their reels look identical, but it looks like the okumas hold up better than the steelers..... So your okuma should be fine. Use it until it wears out and then get a higher quality reel

Don't get coffee grinders from game. Trust me I speak from experience. The gears wear out very quickly and on the lower end ones the screws rust. The multipliers are ok though

Welcome to sealine by the way :welcomesea:

Thanx dude im glad i was finally able to register that security code gave me hell ...ja i know u get what u pay for counts for most if not all things in life.bt i really need to catch something first and get to know the sea better and see if that helps b4 i take ths seriously and start racking up big bucks for decent tackle.coz from what ive been reading the resourses of fish around the cape are wearing thin
