i am currently sitting in the uk on holiday and have had the fortune of visiting a few tackle shops whilist I have been here.
my facet rof angling has always been art lure but where I live now (Thabazimbi) does not really have ideal art lure waters and due to the constraints of my business I have been doing less fishing in the last year than what I used to do in a month - such is life.
There are many waters close by that are small enough that one would be able to do some good float or feeder fishing -not that I know much about it but it looks like a good second if I can't art lure.
I have now ordered and bought myself some tackle to bring home so I hope I can report on my catches and my development in this field this year.
Target species will be carp, blue kurper and what ever else I might be able to catch in our waters around home.
If any of you can help us with some guidance I look forward to hearing from you.
I will most likely be starting in irrigation dams or sections of the crocodile river close to Thabazimbi.

hiya ryan!

A few years ago I imported floats , feeder setup and and a 5m pole with elastics and hooks up to size 26 and mono 1 lbs breaking strain. Great fun, caught lots of everything on it here in the lowveld...caught bass on pole presentation too, and a few a big redbreasted kurpers under the mulberry trees.

Nice one Ryan.

Float is probably the most exciting form of course angling.
I am looking at importing a 13ft 3 piece float rod at the end of the year.
Else you can buy yourself a TF Gear Banshee (Buy 1, Ger 1 free) and I'll take the second one from you when you get back.

Also very interesting what float you will use for which situation.

There is a few of us here in Gauteng that likes float fishing. A style I will teach my son way before teaching him normal conventional angling.

If you can, invest in different type of floats in different weights, Wagglers and Avons ....


Invest in good float reels Drennen makes the best Series 7 if you can else The Red Series.

Your float rod is almost the most important part of float fishing, more than any of the other equipment as you wil control your float (trotting), be casting  and fighting your fish on it. Get a good rod.
