I am a school teacher in Johannesburg and have started an angling club to introduce the learners to the sport which I love dearly. I have managed to get a group of around 30 kids to start and enjoy this magical sport and past time. However this last weekend left a very sour tasts in their mouths and hopefully it does not put them off completely.

The manager of Van Niekerk's rus booked our school angling club trip on the same weekend as the owners son-in-laws bachelor party. They were camped right next to our learners and swore the entire time and tried to give them alcohol on numerous occasions. What's more disturbing it that it was the owner's daughter's husband to be party and he never once told us that they would be doing this the same weekend that a group of school children would be coming to his facitiliy. It is disgusting that they would not tell us that they were having a bachelors party the same weekend we were to go there, they could have let us know to book another weekend.

Also be careful anyone going there, they also charged us in excess for the trip. They made us pay R1000 over the quoted amount when we booked the venue. We had to pay for each learner, for each square meter of ground we took up and for each tent, which I only found out once we had arrived at the dam and set up camp. This is completely unethical from the owner and manager. If you want to be severly ripped off, go to Van Niekerk's rus.

I will never be going back there and I just wanted to warn anyone who wants to take their children or families for a nice weekend to the vaal to stay away from this place. They have absolutley no ethics what so ever.

Also had a bad experience there.Paid for a power point,but there wasn't one available and when I started to investigate-the owner(drunk)started swearing.And they advertise no boating,but next to us were boats and jet skis.Will never go there again-slegte mense daai.

I had a feeling I was not the only one the way we were treated. They also told me no boats and there were plenty, jet skis also. Shame on them. Ablutions also terrible, dirty and no toilet paper as they told us, we had to share every square that some kids brought.

Big kudos to you Fishy , that is a fantastic initiative !

Sorry to hear that it didnt quite go according to plan but such is the nature of the Bachelor Party Beast ..

Thats very unfortunate to hear, especially if you can get interested in fishing and not watching TV the whole day....
Other venues like Boschkop is also a good venue to take the kids.

I find this post very dissapointing and would like to set the record straight we did not receive one complaint from anyone else regarding the bachelors party and it was the kids that misbehaved they were even caught trying to take alcohol from the cooler boxes and my husband , the owner , came home and told me how naughty the kids were, yes it was a bachelors but you, the teacher could obviously not control the boys , with regards to the charge you did not pay pay square m u pay per stand and if u think u were overcharged you can contact me on 0835411874 and I will personally check ur receipt. VAN niekerks Rus is a very small resort and we try our best to accommodate everyone.

and the boats and jet ski's? and the other complaints? like the toilet paper...bad management if you ask me...

If you’re going to allow bachelor parties until that hour you will get complaints. It is unfortunate that you did not own up, but rather live in denial and make excuses....disappointing

I am very sorry if that is how I came across but shouldnt I also be allowed to have my side of the story told. We are a very small resort and do have issues from time to time but we do try our very best to keep everyone happy, I apologise on on behalf of the manager and will address all matters posted here when I get there tomorrow .
