Hi All;

Can anyone please give me some direction. I have a 4.9m Surf Master with 2x 40hp Suzuki`s with a push pull steering system that is a bit stiff.

I would like to install a hydraulic steering. What will this cost me and where is the best place to buy?

Regards

My 2c

Hydrolic steering can set you back anything between R8-12k

Most boat dealerships have them , or can order one from SeaPort.

For 2x40 Yamahas I would Rather replace with another Push Pull steering costing R2-3K.

The push pull was never smooth, I had a guy re do my deck and he changed the pipe under the deck for cables. Now were the cables come out they make a 90 degree bent in small area.(think they hurt cable when installing it.) That's why I am considering hydraulics.

Yes I will install it myself.

Thank you so far

I have a Teleflex Seastar splashwell mount hydraulic system on my falcon RIB that is fitted with 2 x 50HP Etecs. It works really well and now that I have owned a boat with hydraulic steering for 5 years, I will never go back to a push/pull cable system. I would suggest ordering the kit from overseas (Crowley Marine or Seaport etc) as the local agents for Teleflex is Waterworld and their service is just plain crap. There are also versions of Helm that can be selected and adapters to recess the helm if you dont want it sticking out from your console too much. Check the teleflex website for more info at http://www.seastarsolutions.com/products/hydraulic-new/outboard-new/seastar_splash/. There is lots of info on their site and the kits come with installation instructions. There is also a lot of stuff on the internet you can find on their systems with a basic google search. The only item not in the kit is the stainless steel tie bar that links your two engines together. Tou may already have one on your push pull setup that you can re-use.

This system cost me R4k new from the spot in Briadene, Durban that Benny put me on to, includes the pump and hoses. Fits all standard wheels. Place is call Accessories spares centre or something like that. Works 100% and has Teleflex instructions in the box but I'm sure its generic
