Howzit guys,

Loooong time no chat.  I have been trying to find out more about the Berg River dam in terms of its accessibility and current fishing conditions.

I have spoken to a number of Capetonian Bass anglers but no-one has come forth with any concrete intel.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Sincerely

I know somebody that was involved with the building of the dam on the environmental side of things.
From what I heard they managed to get most of the bass and trout out of the river system.
So with the remaining stock, if any, it will take years to be worth while going to fish there.
They are going to stock the dam with indigenous fish.

As for fishing I havent heard of anything.
Best would be to contact Nature Con.

Hey guys, might be a bit off topic but i fished the Steenbras dam about 6 years ago and all we caught were bass in the 300gram range and PLENTY of them.

Was wondering if any body knows what the fishing is like there now. Also not to sure if the dam is open to the public at the moment?

Thought some people would find this interesting.
Here are two pictures of the dam near completion.
The one of the wall isn't the best quality, use my cell phone. and the other in the upper reaches of the dam and on the left by the smoke that is where Dewdale used to be. Looks a lot different with all the trees cut down.

The Dewdale dams had Trout and Bass, so the Berg River Dam is bound to produce Bass in future ... ^^..

Now all it needs is lots of Vlei Kurper (Banded Tilapia) and some Florida strain Largemouths! :wfish

Unfortunately I didnt see any sign of the Dewdale dams when i drove past.
It looked like they were filled in or bulldozed flat for some reason.
Guess they didnt want any trout or bass from the farm in the dam.
I will see if i have a better pic of the Dewdale farm from that day.

My first post here, howzit to all the Sealine okes::S

I used to catch trout and bass in that part of the river in my fly fishing days, being the survivors that they are bass are bound to populate the dam. Attached is a photo of the dam taken a few months ago, just after it had filled for the first time.

Nice pic of the dam, Bassassin! Hope the Berg River Dam becomes a Bassing venue of note like Theewaterskloof in the 1970s and 1980s! :wfish

All i want for Christmas is for that dam to one day be FULL of raging, suicidal oversized smallies that hit your tiny torpedo like one of those great whites that breach when they hit a seal!!!

PLEASE FATHER CHRISTMAS^^..^^..^^..

I just found this image as well which seems to have been taken from almost the same spot as Southpaw's photo. Quite interesting.

Thanks, I think so (the wind) and from what I hear it will be an electric motors only dam if and when boats are eventually allowed.
