Not confirmed, but heard of nice size elf coming out towards momwabezi's side next to the pool and the cob are favouring "maanskynwurm" at the moment. What time you going to macassar?

hahahaha, Landy, it looks like you're abusing my name? I searched but could not find the info. I am more used to plastics, metals, feathers and stuff like that for bait.

The problem is the MCM documents bunch all the worms together and the searches on the names don't really give good results. It's going to need a lot of time to got through each document that google brings up. But someone will probably come to the rescue before I've found the information.

Moonshine worm
Moonshine worm can be pumped next to the strandfontein pool. best times are on the low in spring tide.

I give up, i'm gonna hang up my research cap forever. I've spent hours looking for pictures and other information to no avail.
Thanks so much Reefman for once again comming up trumps.

Reefman thanks a lot for you trouble. I also gave up researching this.

I am still not 100% on this, because I understand that Polychaete = wonder worm, this comes from my marine scientist friends and my own reading.
You name them Eunice aphroditois

I wonder if both Eunice aphroditois & Arabella iricolor aren't a sub species of Polyechaete like Landy says as both come from sand amongst rocks?

I think I must change my name or check my pedigree!

Ay Poly.... you're an embarassment to any self-respecting worm named Polychaete!! :lol:1

WORMS ARE OF one of the following PHYLA (Singular = phylum):

  1. PLATYHELMINTHES (Flat worms), [/*]
  2. NEMERTEA (Ribbon worms), [/*]
  3. NEMATODA (Round worms), [/*]
  4. SIPUNCULIDA (Peanut worms) OR [/*]
  5. ANNELIDA (Segmented worms).

PHYLUM ANNELIDA are the segmented worms, of which there are 3 CLASSES:
[/*]
1. Oligochaeta (earthworms),
2. Hirudinae (leeches) and
3. Polychaeta (Bristle worms).

CLASS POLYCHAETE refers to segmented BRISTLE WORMS, which include all those worms we use as bait.

Hope this helps...

Spot on Reefman! Have you perhaps got Zoology 1 behind your name? It reminds me of lectures many years ago and field trips along the South Coast.

Hi Reefer

Thanks for providing the scientific element to this thread.  I personally have never ever seen a moonlight/moonshine worm looking remotely like the one in picture.  The tend to be concentrated in nests, unlike bloodworm and are normally accessible during low tide spring next to Standfontein's pool amongst other places.  Apart from the colouration, the formation is also like something ive never seen.

Maybe moonshine (what I am referring to) is diffferent from moonlight worms:dunno1

ciao
