Howzit dudes, 4 weeks ago I went to Seychelles for a week's R & R.....GOOD IT WAS! Anyway, despite copious amounts of the local brew (SeyBrew) and other exotic things, I did some adventure outings too - Diving - ParaSailing (Brought my memories back to my days in the Parabats) - Jet Ski......and of course some deep sea fishing trips (More about this, or the actual fishing part later) Will upload pics with some inns + outs once I am back home.
To the out riggers now, most of the local (small time / semi legal charters) use boats < 20', so it puts you in the Ski Vee range. So.....they have to make a plan to put more rods in the water, hence being such a small boat, they make use of a simple budget type out riggers, which is no longer then 2.5 mts, simple contraption, simple place it in a rod holder and viola set and down - of course it's not an over the top set of riggers, plain and simple. The skipper told me they buy them in South Africa (I will post pics as promised - with the outing's details later on) Now these are greyish in colour. Anybody seen these simple / budget / short type out riggers for smaller boats in SA?
NB: Most of the equipment for fishing in Seychelles comes from SA, Most big time charters are run by Russians (the Russian Mafia) - Russian full board charters can charge you up to or more than 2000 Euro per day, not sure if it includes a happy ending with Soviet blonde + caviar and a vodka down down session with an ex KBG general?
Some of the blokes that have been to Mauritius and some other Indian Ocean island might be in the know, regarding the "mop" they use to catch Sailfish with? Now, I have seen it before in West Africa, but in practice first time I saw it in "real time" was in Seychelles, simple piece of 40+ cms of poly white rope, untwisted and frayed out, then looped and knotted thru a moerse swivel - NO HOOKS, then you stream it, usually or what they prefer in the shotgun position (right at the back 60 - 90mts out in the middle of the spread, we have seen countless Sailfish playing with the "piece of rope" no hooks or tangle ups for that matter, still a crazy day to see more than 3 Sailfish at time behind a boat....fins out of the water.....
Back again to the out riggers as describe, if any one knows of these I mentioned - kindly let me know.
