Howsit guys....

I've been itching for sealine to come back online so I could post this thread.

Im going with the family to sterkfontein dam this year and I'm dying to do some freshwater fishing. According to the web site there are kurper, barble, bass, trout, yellow fish and a couple of smaller species that live in the dam.

Can anyone confirm their success and give me tips for fishing the dam. I would really like to catch bass and 1 or 2 yellows :wfish , as iv never caught either....

I'm equipped to fish for all the species on fly lure bait etc....I just need some help with the specifics...

Much appreciated!

BM

(@Ryan: is it worth tryin to klop for barbel amongst the reeds and cover etc)

Just to add we will either have our boat or our ski's there so I'm not restricted to fishing off the shore

Cheers

There are plenty of bass and yellows to catch on artlure. We caught nice yellows on salmo minnows. The bass is taking plastics like flukes - even caught yellows on flukes. Other species much more difficult. Use small lures for yellows - sinking. green colour. spinners No 1 and salmo hornet will also work. Slow erratic retrieve.

BEst site fishing in SA.

Don't worry about klopping just look for barbel lying on the bottom (Sometimes 40m down) drop a lood koppie down to him he is bound to schnack.
If he looks big -think twice a big barbel at 40m is invaribly a monster....

I got good sucess, with jnr Brush hogs, watermelon for bass.
And hammerd the kurpers close to the reeds, with Sada curly Tails.
White worked well, as well as the orange.
Really nice dam to fish.

Barbel we got on sliders and Pumkin seeds, just watch for them turning early mornings and just before dark, can try with fly at these times aswell.

Depends on where you will be staying. Boschkloof is quite close to Qwantani to the south and west of the Wild Horses lodge, just ask a local, one of the best spots there for yellows and bass.

Around the back (east shores), south past the pumped storage setup is Elizabeth, favoured for competitions too, also said to have some trout around there, quite a trip from Qwantani or the Nature Reserve though.

When are you going? I'm due for a trip to that great venue again too.
