How to transport your Ski on the roofracks

Hi Guys

Just 1 question: What is the correct way to strap your kayak on the roof racks?
I was told by my ski fabricator that the ski needs to be transported upside down. Some of you mite remember, I had a crack in mine a week later when they delivered it, because they transported it wrong. All sorted know!
I’ve seen on (KYKNet) Kayak fishing adventures that when they whent trough the border to Mozambique, there Kayak’s was straped hull down. And they launched the next morning the same way.
When I do long distances, I strap mine upside down.

Thanks

Chris,I strap mine hull up. It makes areodynamical (if there is such a word?) sense. It doesnt make a difference or do any damage to your ski either way, i've transported both ways, from Durban to CT. I would presume that yours would've been cracked rather through poor handling by the company.
Hull side up has less drag when driving. Just have to watch the foot pedals dont get damaged on the racks.

I agree with Patrick.  I have always strapped mine hull down onto the kayak wedges/traingles and have never had problems, even when in a BIG hurry at 120km/h.  Only thing that I do additional to the straps on the roof rack is that I use another tiedown from the ski's nose to the vehicle's bumber, just in case my baby thinks she is meant to fly.  Just remember to give the front tiedown a few twists before tying it to the bumber.  This will prefent it from buzzing in the wind.

Hi Chris...

If you are laying the ski flat on a straigh bar roof rack... then Deck down is the way to go. Watch that you dont rest the ski on any its hatches and that you dont scratch the car's roof.

If you have laanie roof racks with kayak support systems, then and rests then you can transport the ski hull down.

Just strap down well and as Gerald says a tying down the front and back so support on the ski and prevent the wind from shifting the ski whilst transporting.
