How to fish with confidence?

How do you actually have confidence in whatever you use?

I take a lure, fish it for hours in all different ways and don't catch fish...

NOW WHAT NOW>>>>>>>>>>?????????????

For me I have a select few lures that I will pick before any other as I am 100% sure they will produce fish.
Lures even though they are the same colour model etc swim totally differently to the next one - So it pays to have a few of each colour in the smae model and take interest how they swim etc - some definately swim better than others this plays a role boosting your confidence.
You have to believe 100% that the lure on the end of your line is going to procuce a fish.
Ask Marno about yesterday - he asked me what lure he should put on - I said the Salmo hornet no 4 Red head - 2 casts later he was "ON" even though it came off I can bet you anything that is one of his "Money" lures now.
Confidence is much like wearing your lucky shirt/jocks whatever - you believe that you will catch a fish without doubt.
I know for my boat partner and myself - getting your first fish on the boat is the "Ice breaker" from there on in it is all downhill - it puts quite a bit of pressure for us to get the first fish on the boat but everytime it happens it boosts our confidence. It is so bad that sufficed to say we may not open a beer till the each has his first fish on the boat.
Heck you have got to believe in something....
Another thing that works we find is if we are batteling to catch a certain species then we go back to a species that is easy to catch or to a species we know we can easily catch and this is a confidence builder even if it means we catch a few of the same species just to fish for "Size".
I hope this makes a bit of sense......

to sum it up, since viagra has been discussed and after reading Ryan's thread.

Lures are very much the same as sperm, if they don't swim well enough you must get something(viagra) that you can believe in.::S::S

This is greg hackney giving some tips to get confidence on a new bait.

The only way to get confidence in a bait is to fish them over and over again. Try different ways. At some stage you will do something that will trigger a bite and that will be it.
My confidence bait is a chatterbait and a senko

Deon- I think the personal attitude builds the confidence. If you approach a days fishing half heartedly nothing seems to perform right. The tackle lets you down, the water colour is wrong etc.etc. BUT should you have the frame of mind -no matter what the conditions " I am going to make it work" the battle is more than won. First have confidence in yourself, the tackle will follow suit.

I would imagine that you have one bait and technique that you feel comfortable fishing. If you have caught fish on this lure/technique then I'm sure you will catch more. I have a theory that you can throw a kitchen sink and if it drops past the nose of a bass he will chow down. As one of my mentors once told me when trying out new baits or techniques that you are either fishing spots where there are no fish or not getting the bait infront of the bass.

I use the white fluke texas rigged as my confidence bait and will catch a bass on it 90% of the time. Someone else will laugh at my choice as he may use a junebug deadringer but he will also catch fish off the same spot. You need to "believe" that what you are using will catch (mental confidence). I approach a typical fishing day "knowing" I "will" catch bass on that day and usually I do. It just the size that becomes the problem..... and then I reach for my bottle of Viagra.....

Very true what people said here. My "best "confidence" bait is a swimming frog........ I chucked it on a clear, piping hot day,and people were laughing at me. After I caught two fish, guess what they tied on??

Secondly, I completely and totally agree with Ryan about that first fish. It settles you, because now, you know you haven't blanked, so you calm down, and immediately you fish better.

The opposite is also true though. When you lose your first fish, your heart sinks and you feel worse. I had that last time I fished with VC. I caught a stunning Bass, but because I was stupid and lazy, it broke off. I was so pissed at myself, and for the rest of the day I caught squat. Lots of takes, but none sticking. I even missed a very clear bite... I wasso de-tuned that I wasnt concentrating when the bass took my lure (VC It was that craw thing with the yellow pincers). I was off form for the whole day because of that first fish.

Because of that bad day I am reluctant to go fish even now. Until I thought about it this morning, I didnt actually realise how much it affected me...... If only I caught that first fish. I know it shouldnt affect me so much, but it has. The only way to get over myself, is to take my shit and get over myself and go fishing, with confidence, because I know (I really do) that every single lure in my tackle box will catch fish.

We sometimes forget the mental aspect of this game. In my early compo's I stressed like crazy when I couldn't raise a bite and it badly affected the way I was fishing. Now I say to myself, "just enjoy" and usually have a great time out on the water even if I only weigh in a dink.
