Hey guys,
Please help me put with this question: How would u approach a dam?
this will really help as a guidline...

by this I mean
Do u first look for structure? which is best to look out for?
How do u choose betwwen the basic wagller style or the lift method?
How do u choose which floatt to use?
Which baits for which type of day?
and finally how do u remember where your feeding spot is, and then keep casting on it?

Thanks guys your help will really be apreciated..

Sharon:

I'm no expert but look at the following:

1. Any visible structure like reeds, islands, drop off's, dam walls etc. You can fish fairly close to the edges as carp will patrol it actively.

2. Check on what angle the shore hits the water. The steeper the incline the better your chances are at deep water in front of you. If the shoreline hits the water on a flat angle, it might take longer to approach deeper water.

3. Try and source as much information about the dam/lake you will be fishing. This is sometimes over ooked, but very crucial to your success.

I have no idea on what baits to use for your type of angling, but try and keep things simple untill you established what the fish are taking comfortably. I also look to fish a depth of 4 mtrs. I had most of my luck at this depth, but its not set in stone.

I hope it helped,

Sorry I didnt read all the posts:

Q:by this I mean Do u first look for structure?

A: Yes, also look at fish activity, as this will help you decide distance and feeding method.

Q:which is best to look out for?

A:I prefer drop off's, but dam walls have also produced some good fish.

Q:How do u choose betwwen the basic wagller style or the lift method?

A: Sorry not able to help

Q:How do u choose which floatt to use?

A: Sorry not able to help

Q:Which baits for which type of day? A: Keep it simple early in the day and progressively introduce mielie pips and maybe chopped worms. This will be trial and error.

Q: and finally how do u remember where your feeding spot is, and then keep casting on it?

A: Choose a fixed spot directly in front of your swim and cast your line. You can also use the line clip method. I personally prefer this as I will only then have to worry about the direction I have to cast and not the distance as well. Building your feeding spot will dramatically increase your success rate.
