the biggest mistake I noticed that I do is loosing concentration... you need to aim down your spear but I always loose concentration just before I pull the trigger...another tip is to aim small (and then you will miss small!) aim for a small spot on the fish rather than aiming at the fish in general...
some people find turning their gun side on gives them a better perspective with which to aim....:wfish
post a pic of your first one!

If you turn a rail gun on its side, then you are cancelling the effect of the rail, which is to support the spear and stop it from bowing.

Thanks for the info

so when im looking down the barrel or top of spear at a fish imm looking at a spot on the fish wont i mis the fish cuz of the airspace in ur mask that creats that the fish looks higher or lower in the water then it is normaly like the pencil in a glass theory it bends in the water

Best way is to practice.
Get into calm clear water or swimming pool would be easiest, set up a 2lt coke bottle tied to a weight.
Try hit the bar code at max range. You should quickly see for your self what aiming technique works best for you and how consistint your gun shoots.
I spent many a frustrating sesions in the pool where my spear would go straight then vere off at about half the range.Finaly came right by changing the barb.I can now hit the bar code or be very close shot for shot.
Practice makes perfect-imagine how many fish I would have missed if I never tried it in the pool first.:fswim:fswim:fswim

DON'T PRACTICE SHOOTING IN THE SWIMMING POOL!!

Unless your wife or parents really love you! You will end up putting holes in the wall. It happened to a "friend of a friend" LOL

Flippie, I've read somewhere that the key is to extend your arm fully - I must still see if it works for me. I can't recall if I do that anyway but I don't miss too many..

Build a little target using plastic mesh (large squares) you buy at hardware stores. a 3x3 square size works perfectly. Gives a "bulls eye" and you dont shoot through anything, its easy to get yor spear back and you can re-use your target. I've had the same one for four years now.

Have a line with marking every meter that you can "practice" from different distances. Thus you learn how your gun operates. Soon you won't even need to "aim" as you will be able to place the spear as if by will. This way you also know if you miss if it is due to bent spear etc. You take out the guess work.

Lastly don't aim over the gun, this way you are aiming vertically, i.e. up and down. Aim along the side so your aiming horizontally. Fish are generally longer than wide so more room for error.
