This means "we are sorry we hijacked your thread"

I asked Simen where he learned to speak Fanakalo, whether on the mines, like I did?

He said yes he did, but he did not like going underground everyday so he left and got a better paying job , took a wife and had children. But now he reckons he wants to leave that job as well because he likes fishing better !  I said he must come live where I do and then we can fish all the time and sell our fish. I must first paint the picture of the mermaid on my boat though...

On a serious note though, Fanakalo is an easy language to learn and it will serve you well in Africa...most older men did their stint on the mines in our country as contracted migrant workers and you will be understood no matter how wide you travel.

The most beautiful language I have heard spoken is Swahili, which has it's roots in African languages, Polynesian and Arabic.

Bagamoyo, just north of Dar-es-Salaam was a major slave terminal from where slaves were exported all over the world via Zanzibar. It means "...here lies my bleeding heart..." There was a major mix of cultures and languages here.

Try this:

Mina kampenda Malaika...." I love you my Angel "

Their ( Tanzanian) music is also out of this world!
