How does a bait clip work

How does the bait clip that you find on grapnel sinkers work? I can't find anything clear on google.

I've only ever used the traditional method of casting and naturally I sacrifice quite a bit of distance because of it.

Hiya WWFisherman,

Have a look at the picture.

You would clip the bottom hook onto the sinker clip by making you hook snoot slightly shorter than the sinker snoot.

It does add quite a few extra meters onto the cast!

Thanks, Trophy

So the tension of the line holds it on then? What releases it, the impact on the water?

Interesting picture i see you all use the artificial squid on most og your baits, i take it this just works as a attractant ?, Have you not used them and found any difference in bite/takes ?
thanks tope

Hey not me...I have kept polite company, even in my wild and hairy days! Let's leave the crabs alone and get back onto the sinker bait clipping! (LoL)

WW fisherman, if you surf on Sealine you will find a post/picture and explanation of the complete rig. Its called a PULLEY RIG.

You will also experience a better ratio of fish on the hook using this type of rig.

It loses itself when the sinker touches bottom, if you bind foam on your hook, that will help it to float free of the 'hook' on the sinker.

Tip: place beads on the sinker trace. This prevents the swivel from riding high over the knot and can alleviate your knots excessive pressure which will inevatibly lead to a broken trace.

Tight lines.

:)

Thanks Psy, I did come across that image but I have to admit my small brain can't grasp the concept from that picture. It's one of those things I'm going to have to get someone to explain to me in person (I'm clearly a lower grade fishing student but not for lack of enthusiasm).

Ja...you see the pic.... there is the IMP CLIP....well i dont use that k@k...you dont need to..if you have a long-nose in your bag, just bend your sinker wire downward a little and bait your hook correctly, you will have your hook belly open to lay in the sinkers wire 'hook'
Before you cast, bring the bait to the sinker and lay the hook in place - the weight is transferred to the bait. So you see you will be able to cast 'heavy' baits eg sandwiches for Kobbe.

Hey WWFisherman,

Why don't you attend the Sealine social on May 16 at Leeukop Dam at the prisons by Kyalami.

There will be casting, bait demos, traces and many of your questions can be answered there. Not a terribly formal day but you will be able to get advice and meet some of the GP Sealiners. There is a thread under the GP Socials.

You can PM me if you want more details.

There like a bear now that I know about it. Hopefully I can learn something from you guys, even if just by osmosis.
