How Do You handle Losing a Fish?GRrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I pitch up at Macasser,find some water with good colour.First cast with wonderworm, I reel line tight,and get an immediate inquiry!

And as fish takes,I strike.He's on,and this is something substantial,much much bigger than regular catches I've had lately.My 350/4 took some buckling!

I reel in 20metres,and the bliksem heads for the rocks!This guy definitely hangs out in schools,lol!

After 15 minutes of offerring him chance to get out from rocks,and get caught,lol,i give up and break off!

So,how do you deal with losing a fish?

GRrrrrrrrrrrr!

I lost 3 tonight and i am very bleak about it.... the good news is that there is always next time...

Walt, as a rule i used to swear loudly, now i just swear quietly by myself.::cavmn::cavmn::cavmn:whisp:spite:spite:spite:shock::shock::shock:well i do try.

Hard luck daar walt ek dink dit is sulke dinge wat ons as vissermanne weer laat terug gaan vir nog 'thats all part of the fun' as so iets gebeur dan is ek soms vir dae kwaad vir my self en wonder gewoonlik wat dit was en hoe groot dit was. Maar moenie worry nie as hy weer volgende keer jou hoek vat is hy groter!

its all fun and games , but last time i lost a big fish , i mean a real proper big fish , i went silent for 2 days ,didnt speak a word .

soos die speuk woord se , ooooo die sap van die druif hoe heelik is jy ....

Hi Walt,
Most serious anglers would answer your question with " not real good".

But then again we comfort ourselves in that we have done everything right and if the fish has won for the day, that's OK.

What I get real dirty about is seeing a good fish drift away after losing it up close because of tackle failure. (line , hooks, swivels etc)

My only concern with a snagged fish is that I really hope and pray that he/ she can get out of it's predicament safely.

Yip,I was bit disappointed.By the take, this fish meant bizness.Not your normal bait burglar,lol!

Yip,others know how this feels like with Tucker.'You didn't tell us about the other 10 fish you did land,Tucks?'Lol!

BUT it was on the cards-I was fishing on a Spring Low with lots of rocks as cover for fish.

My main unselfish concern is that fish survives,as BH said.The Fish's survival is more important to me ,than actual loss of fish!

I got my swivel and 2 traces out,so fish didn't get left with sinker burden,but has a nr 1 hook to contend with,as I was on a Gallie hunt!.

Hopefully fish will rub it,dislodge hook on rock barnicles,etc,and will naturally survive.

Bottom line - Win some,lose some!

i usually say things that i regret saying afterward. it happened to me 3 times in a row at stilbaai. vas! hard fight and into the rocks! i had my father with me but i couldnt help myself cursing!

i lost a big spottie at langebaan , right at my feet, had him over the lip 3 times, i swore, and hit the water with the rod, felt like a A grade poepol afterwards...beach was full of vakansiegangers.

If it's something I've done wrong to lose the fish,I get pi$$ed,otherwise it's just one of those things, some you win some you lose.My worst moment was losing what must have been about a 60cm gallie due to me being hasty in trying to get the fish out, it threw the hook after I dragged it onto the rocks and went slithering back into the sea as I watched helplessly.I think I'm still psychologically scarred...

I dont get upset unless it was my fault. In which case I curse a bit, but I'm trying to mellow out... And if it was my fault I find out WHY and i learn from it so it wont happen again

I normally set a new land speed record getting my line out again . The air only starts turning blue around me when the next cast or two are overwinds and you get to watch your worm or prawn bait vaporize . That really does it for me and I whisper a few choice words to the rod and reel .

A mate of mine took up the javelin throw and hurled his blue marlin and SL50 into the ocean off the PE harbour wall!

Was hilarious to watch I tell you.. Graham aka Doom then took a swim and got him his kit back. He was relieved to have it back once he simmered down a little.

As for me, well a few choice words usually at high volume suffice.

I like what you say Aqua and I try man, I TRY !!

I normally wanne hit the rod against something but then I rather
become a "sailor", voice my "opinion" out loud, calm down and try again

I had a rockcod reef me twice on lite tackle before I landed it, but I do the "non return slide" dance and most of the time get the fish out the hole that way

Losing a good sized fish is "depressing" to me full stop! I recently lost a very good sized shark off Macasser and I was in control all the time, and then the hook just popped out...Why..????

But YES. I'll be back!!!:fishn
