Hey guys,
Did a bit of spearing in the kelp yesterday. The water was so cold my hands were to numb to load my gun after about two hours and even tracking the fish with the barrel became difficult.
As usual the Galjoen seem to know they are untouchable and saw a few sizers with small groups consisting of 4-5 individuals. Also came across one in about half a meter of water.
All in all a freezing but enjoyable dive with 3 hotties shot, the biggest one I got about 34cm.
We didn't feel like baking them again so made very fine sashimi from the fillets i.e just thinly sliced raw strips. The rest of course in the freezer for some fish stock later on. We were pleasantly surprised at both taste and texture with a mild sweet aftertaste. Besides a nice change from the usual oven bake, preparing them like this was far more filling (and not to forget always nice to save electricity).
Are there any other reef/kelp dwelling fish you guys have tried this with?
